When it comes to making sure your baby is taken care of you find yourself going through a list of what is most important. Keeping your baby as happy as possible includes making sure they are warm, dry, fed and loved.
Thinking about keeping them dry for a moment, it is important to make sure you use the best diapers you can for them. We don’t always know if they have any allergies, so it is important not to just use any diaper. Let’s visit the different options that are out there.
Disposable diapers were first developed by Marion Donovan after World War II due to a cotton shortage. Before long, mothers realized the practical everyday benefits of Donovan’s 1950 diaper design: a rectangular plastic covering (initially made from shower curtains) over layers of tissue paper. Now think for a minute can you imagine putting tissue paper and a shower curtain on your baby’s bottom? At the time it had to be nicer for Moms than washing cloth diapers, but still messy.
After all of these years, disposable diapers have gone through many changes; including more than 1,000 patents filed in their name. Disposable diapers increased in popularity following the introduction of Super Absorbent Polymers (SAP) in diapers in the mid-80s. Today, an estimated 90% of US parents use disposable diapers, much to the dismay of environmental activists who consider the landfill impact unethical.
Diapers are constructed in three layers, an inner layer that sits against baby’s skin is designed to be soft, stay relatively dry, and wick away moisture into the core. The absorbent core is designed to pull moisture in and trap it to keep wetness away from baby to avoid rashes. The outer layer is waterproof to prevent leaks.
So what if you could get a disposable diaper that you could feel good about? Have you ever considered a disposable diaper made from bamboo?
About Bamboo Diapers
Bamboo is organically grown. There are no pesticides, fertilizers or herbicides needed to grow them. This is a great advantage for parents who want to raise their babies using organic products, or to those whose babies have sensitive skin.
Also bamboo is a natural fabric, which makes it antibacterial, hypoallergenic, antifungal and breathable. This means fewer bacteria, fewer diaper rashes, fewer odors. Bamboo diapers allow maximum air circulation and keep the temperature down inside baby’s diaper, thereby reducing the risk of bacteria. It is thanks to these particular benefits, that bamboo is the fabric of choice for babies with sensitive skin.
Bamboo Diapers are usually more absorbent than man-made fibers, and they can often absorb up to 8oz of liquid, quickly too. This means less leaking. In fact, they can absorb up to 3x their weight in liquids, and they absorb 70% more than cotton. This would mean that the diaper will last longer, especially during the night when leaks mostly occur.
