The summer is upon us and, while that should mean great weather and plenty of fun, it also brings that age-old challenge – keeping the kids happy. If that fills you with fear, then don’t worry – here are five family-friendly summer activities that are guaranteed to keep you AND your little ones happy this summer…

Broadway

Few spectacles can rival the thrill of live theater and what better place to take in a show than Broadway? Manhattan’s magnificent theaters cater for just about every possible taste – and shows such as Aladdin, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Lion King are perfect for keeping the whole family entertained. You’re also bound to be wowed by the sheer spectacle of these incredible productions, which offer just as much for adults too.

Cinema

Ok, so your choice of a film might not be totally in your control – but taking the family to watch a movie this summer is a guaranteed winner. Plus, let’s be honest, it’s not really a hardship to compromise and see ‘their’ films as I’m sure we love a summer family blockbuster! Wonder Woman, Spider-Man, Transformers, Despicable Me 3, the Emoji Movie…take your pick, they’re all out this summer.

Soccer

Watching sport is a great family occasion – especially in the summer when you’ve got great weather to match the action on the pitch. Fancy a sporting occasion for your family? Major League Soccer is on the up right now, with the standard of games growing rapidly to match that of the more established leagues in Europe. The regular season is underway – check out a game with your family this summer and see what the fuss is all about.

The great outdoors

Spending quality time with your family this summer has to mean getting outside. Whether it’s making the most of your garden with outdoor games, using your pool as often as possible, campfires with smores, a classic lemonade stand or sidewalk chalk – get creative and do something fun outdoors. These are all great for people with a tight budget too – you can have a great time for just a few dollars.

Vacation

If your budget isn’t so tight, why not get away this summer? How about a vacation to a great theme park? You’re bound to get a lot of credit with your kids if you pull this one off. Florida is theme park country – and Walt Disney World cannot fail to entertain (there’s a reason why this attracts 52 million visitors a year). Alternatively, US News rates Ocean City in Maryland as its number one family summer vacation and it’s a great suggestion if you’re looking for inspiration. This has everything you’d want from an American beach holiday – with sun, sea, sand, arcades, and amusements.

Plan out your summer properly and it can be packed with memories that will last a lifetime. There are so many ways to make the most of this time of year so what are you waiting for?
