In this modern day and age, keeping your mouth clean is akin to not shaking your hands like a fish, or not releasing gas on your esteemed partner; that is, it’s pretty dang important. Without clean teeth, you can end up with stinky breath, painful gums, and even many different types of diseases that don’t have anything to do with your mouth (like Cancer and heart disease). Fortunately, it’s easier than ever to get a good brush and toothpaste; but, are there any other ways to keep your teeth clean? You bet there is! Here are some of the best ways to ensure your mouth stays truly clean throughout the year, even if you don’t have the best brushing habits.
4. Eat Apples Daily
Strangely enough, the texture and the acidity of the common apple can help destroy and remove plaque while acting like a teeth whitener, giving you the gleam you’ve always wanted. Of course, you’re going to have to eat a ton of apples to be able to replace teeth brushing and mouthwash; so much so that it’s basically impossible. But, as an augmentative cleaning method, it works really well, and can make your teeth cleaner than ever.
3. Get Teeth Whitening Procedures
If you have the extra money, teeth whitening can be an easy way to make your teeth look whiter than ever. Best of all, all cosmetic dentists provide this type of service, so you don’t have to deal with the “whitening strips” that only work every once in a while. Trust me; if you’re trying to make your pearly whites look, well, pearly white, then Teeth Whitening is a great way to do so. Just don’t overdo it!
2. Eat Raw Carrots
Bearing a similar property to apples, raw carrots can act like a toothbrush and floss in one, with strong fibers within the carrot itself doing a lot to get rid of nasty plaque. While not as good as apples, raw carrots are definitely something to try if you have no apples around.
1. Replace your Toothbrush
This is, without a doubt, one of my main pet peeves as a wannabe dentist. Why would you use the same toothbrush—that has been dipped and scrubbed along one of the most disgusting parts of the human body—for months and months at a time? After a while, those germs picked up in your mouth on previous washes aren’t going to wash out of the brush itself next time you use it. This can cause gum disease, more plaque, and much less efficacious brushing in the long run.
