Three Tips for Improving Your Dental Health in 2022

1

They say that your oral health is a window to your overall health. So if you’re guilty of neglecting your oral hygiene, then it’s time to turn things around for 2022.

It can be tough knowing where to start and what to improve though. We understand this struggle, so to help out, we’ve got a short guide for improving your dental health. Read on to find out some great tips!

Practice Daily Oral Hygiene

You should be brushing your teeth at least twice a day; once in the morning and once before bed.

Electric toothbrushes are better than manual ones since they have more power. If you’d rather use a manual toothbrush, then pick one with soft and round bristles. Also, use whitening and/or cavity-fighting toothpaste.

When brushing your teeth, you need to brush for at least 2 minutes. Pay close attention to hard-to-reach spaces.

You’ll also want to scrub your tongue. This will keep it free of bacteria and your breath will stay nice and fresh.

As for flossing, you need to do this at least once a day. It’s best if you do it right after eating so it removes food particles and eliminates a key food source for bacteria. This can help decrease cavities.

See the Dentist for Checkups

Even if you take the best care of your teeth, there are still issues that can develop. This is why it’s important to see your dentist and other dental health associates for annual checkups.

When your dentist has yearly records, it’ll be easier for them to compare and detect health problems early on. With early intervention, these issues will become smaller, more manageable ones that don’t impact your overall health too much.

Cut Down on Sugar Intake

Sugar is what bacteria love to feed on, and as a result, you’ll be more prone to cavities. Cut down on your sugar intake to better your dental health (this includes soda).

Not only will this improve your oral health, but it can also help you maintain a healthy weight.

Start Your Kids Young

Not only should you see your dentist every year, but so should your children. Children’s dental health is vital in creating healthy lifelong habits, so start them young.

Bring them along to your dental appointments so they see that there’s nothing to fear. That way, when it’s time for them to see their pediatric dentist, they won’t be fearful.
