You’ll Love the Tech-Savvy Features That Make It a Pleasure to Live in Your New Home

The 1999 Disney Channel Original Movie Smart House told the tale of technology gone wrong, as an artificial-intelligence-filled house becomes sentient and attempts to control the family living in it under the guise of protecting them from harm. While it wasn’t a horror film, it did point out the more terrifying theories of what might happen when AI oversteps its intended boundaries.

Fortunately, that movie didn’t predict what today’s smart homes are really like, so you can breathe a sigh of relief. In fact, today’s smart homes, controlled mostly by mobile applications, are quite safe and secure, even from outside forces.

Smart home features are designed to make living easier, by simplifying how residents control certain aspects of their spaces. And while not every single facet of a home is considered “smart” today, the components that are only add to convenience and comfort.

Homeowners can purchase these pieces of smart technology to upgrade their homes, or you can find them in smart home luxury apartments all over the world. Just add a voice-controlled virtual assistant so you can make verbal commands without touching your smartphone.

Smart Lighting

Smart lights can be turned on, off, or dimmed at the press of a button on a smartphone app, or through voice commands through a virtual assistant. Some smart lighting can even change color.

Smart lighting is convenient because you can control lighting everywhere in your apartment without leaving your spot on the sofa. You can even turn off lights you forgot about after you’ve climbed into bed for the night. And before you get out of bed in the morning or come home after a night out, you can turn on lights so your space is illuminated.

Smart Thermostats

Smart thermostats can save you money on heating and cooling costs. These thermostats are controlled through your smartphone. By using a geofence, your thermostat can tell when you are home and when you aren’t, automatically adjusting your home’s temperature to be slightly warmer in the summer or slightly cooler in the winter, which saves on utility bills.

You also can use your smartphone to program your thermostat, so it automatically adjusts to the desired temperature during the day.

Smart Locks

Have you ever left your house and then spent hours wondering whether you remembered to lock the door? Have you ever gotten into bed and had to get back up to check to see if your front door is locked? Smart locks remedy those problems, so you never have to fret ever again.

With a smart lock, you also never have to fumble with your keys. Most people have multiple keys on their keyring, so finding their door key can take a bit of time. However, many people have their smartphones in a more accessible location. Just access the app on your smartphone and unlock your door through the app as you approach it from the hallway or your driveway.

Being able to quickly lock and unlock your door can help keep you safe, which is why smart locks are becoming increasingly popular.

Smart Window Shades
Picture it: you’re sitting on your sofa, binge-watching your favorite show when you realize there’s a massive glare on your TV screen. Rather than get up to adjust your blinds and then sit back down to make sure the glare is gone — and maybe even get up again to adjust your blinds further — you can use smart window shades, which are controlled with an app or remote.

With these techy window treatments, you can adjust your shades from anywhere in your home. Some are even programmable, like your thermostat, to go up and down depending on the time of day!

Smart Appliances
Many new kitchen appliances are equipped with small computers to give them smart features. For example, your microwave may be compatible with a virtual voice assistant. Or, your refrigerator might be able to tell you exactly what’s inside and suggest recipes you could make with the ingredients you already have.

These smart appliances are relatively new, but the conveniences they offer have made them increasingly popular purchases. Although you might not find smart appliances in apartments just yet, we predict there will soon come a time when they’re standard.

Where to Find a Smart Apartment for Rent
If you’re lucky, you can do an Internet search for “apartments near me” and find a slew of available units that are equipped with this smart technology.

However, if your search results come up with an overwhelming number of new pads that aren’t equipped with what you’re looking for, you can narrow down your search by using an online apartment search website. These sites use search filters, so you can narrow down your list to places you’re actually interested in, in a matter of seconds.

You also can narrow your search by using terms like “luxury apartments” and where you are looking to live. Most commonly, it is luxury apartments for rent that will come equipped with smart technology, not a run-of-the-mill unit in an old complex. For example, if you were searching for a smart apartment in a suburb of Kansas City, you might search “luxury apartments in Overland Park.”

Your search results will be far more likely to show you a smart apartment for rent, so you can start living with the convenience and safety that comes with a technologically-advanced home!
