What forms of art do you know? Have you ever heard of Origami techniques? By the end of this article, you will have all the details you need to understand Origami art.

The general meaning of art is an essential aspect of the past and modern society. Artists explore their freedom to express their ideas in different genres of art. So, this blog explains what Origami art is, and we will also give you an example of how to make one.

What are the Different Types of Origami?

Before understanding the various techniques of origami, you need to know its definition. Origami is folding a piece of paper, a form of art from Japanese history. The purpose of origami is to create 3D paper figures and shapes using crease patterns. Also, its different designs come to life due to a geometric folding method.

Origami in the modern world is a fascinating art that makes the artist think outside the box. This craft involves patterns that need a step-by-step creation to avoid errors. Besides, the advantage of origami is that it is a hobby of all ages.

There are three basic types of folding in origami, and these are the following:

Valley Fold

Valley fold is the first and most common type of origami paper folding art. As the name suggests, this technique begins when the sheet folds to create a valley in the middle. An artist can make the valleys by drawing straight lines on the sheet before the process. Remember, anyone can do a valley fold origami if you follow the correct steps. Put a flat paper on a surface and fold it towards you. Depending on what you are creating, you need to use the dashed lines to make a figure.

Mountain Fold

The mountain fold type is a reversed valley fold origami. It is a mountain fold because when you put the paper on a surface, the sheet of paper will rise like a mountain. Fold a section away from you, then perform a creasing process on the lines. If you are a beginner, you can create a valley fold first, then turn the paper upwards. But experts can also develop a mountain fold while folding on air.

Squash Fold

Squash fold is the last Origami type after mastering the mountain and valley fold. What do you do with a paper that you do not need? You ‘squash’ it in your fist and throw it away, right? So, squash Origami is a neat technique of squeezing paper into folds. In this model, both creasing and pre-creasing actions take place. Two layers of paper are ideal for a 3D figure.
