How To Design The Perfect Guest Room

1

If you love having guests in your home, you have to be prepared to provide them a space where they can feel at home. A spare bedroom can be transformed into a relaxing retreat with just a few simple design tips. A room with a bed is not enough. You have to make your guests feel more comfortable by providing a room that they can call their own while they are staying in your home. Here are a few ideas for designing the perfect guest room.

Give your guests space for their belongings

A spare bedroom is typically where you keep your extra items. Make sure that you give your guests enough space where they can store their shoes, clothes, and other items that they bring with them. Pick up a drawer, a rack, and organizers, so they have a place where they can keep their belongings during their stay instead of leaving everything crumpled in their bags.

Have fresh linens on the bed and bath

Nothing will make your guests feel welcome than providing them with freshly washed linens for the bed and bath. Pick linens that are comfortable and soft for that extra luxurious feel. You don’t want your guests to feel like they have to bring along their own bedding and towels when they visit your home.

Think like a guest in your own home

The best way to design a perfect guest room is to think like a guest. If you were to be a guest in someone else’s home, what are the items that you would like to see? Do you want a welcome note? Fresh flowers, perhaps? If you put yourself in your guest’s position, it will be easier for you to provide the necessities and additional decorations that will make your guests feel more welcome and at home.

Reading materials

Some guests like to read before bedtime. Provide a wide selection of books and magazines that your guest is sure to enjoy. For instance, for your fashionista friend, provide a variety of the latest issues of fashion magazines. Also, don’t forget a bright reading lamp placed on the bedside. If your guests are not so much into reading, provide other materials to help keep them busy throughout their stay, such as a laptop, tablet or TV.

Make sure everything works

Before your guest arrives, make sure everything works in the guest bedroom. Check the light-bulbs, water heaters, switches, and other things that might be broken or that need changing. This will eliminate the hassle and embarrassment of having your guest point out the faulty items in the room.

Give your guests a comfortable place

Since you are designing a bedroom, one of the main things to consider is the bed. The bedroom is a place of rest and relaxation, and it is best if you give your guests a comfortable mattress to sleep in and some fluffy pillows to hug. You can even purchase some single beds that zip together, so you can change the arrangement of the beds depending on the number of guests who will be visiting your home.
