Every weekend, in surburbs all over the world, you can hear the roar of lawn-mowers as proud homeowners strive to have the best looking lawn in their street.

Follow the 5 steps below and your lawn will be looking great year round!

1. Avoid an Excess of Activity

Some people do not think of this when it comes to lawn care, but it is still pertinent. If a homeowner wishes to have a healthy and happy lawn, it is a good idea to avoid an excess of activity. Children should not play on the lawn for long periods of time as the lawn may wear down or otherwise experience damage. Holding large and elaborate parties should also be avoided. Shoes and trash may leave holes or dents in the lawn, and this is something to keep in mind. This does not imply that any activity on the lawn is unsuitable; however, it is vital to be careful.

2. Fertilize the Lawn

You should fertilize your lawn twice a year – once in Autumn and once in Spring. This will ensure that your lawn is healthy enough to make it through the extremes of Winter and Summer. Slow release, organic fertilizer is the best option and you should water the lawn well after every application.

3. Water the Lawn

Though this option may be obvious to some people, it still needs a note. A person who wishes to have a lawn that looks fabulous throughout the year should water the lawn on a frequent basis. It is not enough to add a light amount of water to the lawn. It is necessary to water the lawn with an appropriate level of water. This may require research for the homeowner, but it is a crucial step. It is not unusual for a homeowner to install a sprinkler, and it is also possible to water the lawn with a human hand and the right equipment.

4. Cut the Lawn

Cutting your lawn regularly not only improves the look of your home, it also stimulates grass growth – resulting in an even grass covering and a healthier looking lawn. Be sure not to cut the lawn too short in summer as the harsh sun can burn your lawn, leaving it an unattractive brown color. Be sure to wear safety equipment when using yard equipment and ensure all young children are kept inside while working with trimmers and lawnmowers. If you don’t have the time to cut your own lawn there are a number of Brisbane lawn moving services available and a quick Google search will point you in the right direction.

5. Aerate the soil

You can hire special lawn aeration equipment which essentially pokes lots of little holes into the soil which allows for water and fertilizer to reach the lawns roots. It is advisable to do this once a year in order to keep your lawn looking it’s best!
