What’s the Best Age for Braces?

2

Most individuals have photos from their years with braces. We remember the years that we thought popping that thin wire was the worst thing we could do. Braces, for many now adults, were the worst thing that could have happened in our adolescence.

Now, as adults, being parents and guardians to the next generation we have someone else’s mouth to take care of. If you’re wondering when to begin that process for your child, it’s time to do some research.

When is the best age for braces? When is your child’s mouth ready and prepared for the entire process? Keep reading below for more help with deciding if your child’s mouth is ready for orthodontics.

What Age Is Best for Braces?

The answer to this question may surprise you. Children between the ages of 10 and 14 are the prime ages for braces. The true answer may depend on the maturity of your child.

Your child will have to have lost all of their baby teeth to be ready. This gives the doctor a clear indication of just what the treatment needs to look like. Straightening teeth can be a complex process.

Your child’s orthodontist will know the best course of action for your child.

Are Braces Only for Children?

Orthodontic treatment is not only for children. Depending on what your misaligned teeth look like, you may want a consultation for adults as well. It is never too late for orthodontic treatment.

If you suspect that your teeth may benefit from braces it would be best to schedule an appointment. Braces no longer consist of only having metal in your mouth. Things like Invisalign are now also an option for those adults who don’t want to be brought back to their middle school days.

A Different Process

The process of getting braces has changed over the years. The treatment has many different options that weren’t available when you were younger. You may want to talk over your child’s process and options prior to them being treated.

This guide will help you to better understand the new process that comes along with your child having braces put on. You may also need to discuss with your doctor the type of braces that will be chosen for your son or daughter’s treatment.

Now You Know the Right Age for Braces

The right age for braces can be difficult for any parent to accept. Watching your child go through the process of getting their braces can be difficult. The result will be worth all of the trouble you and your child go through.

The most important aspect to keep in mind is to find an orthodontist that you and your child are both comfortable with. Also, one who won’t break the bank.
