Artist’s Story:Through your purchase of this bag, the Cambodian artisans are provided free daycare and elementary school facilities by Smateria, the company that create the designs and work with the artisans directly. Of the many qualities that make our products unique, the most important is the story of the artisans who handcraft them.

Speaking of stylish – check out this beautiful scarf.
This scarf is 100% cotton – 22 inches wide and 75 inches long. The colors are so soft and dreamy. It truly is stunning. The story of the artist, breaks my heart, but it’s so wonderful that via Fair Trade Designs, she is able t0 pay for medical treatment that is so needed.
Orphaned at an early age, Ammu was taken in by her grandmother. She struggled with tuberculosis and her grandparents struggled financially. Her Aunt introduced her to the fair trade organization, which gave her light work in the tailoring unit and they also helped her with her medical bills. She soon found a passion for design and embroidery work. Thanks to the medicine, she has now regained strength and is highly committed to her work. This is what she has to say:
“I thoroughly enjoy the stitching, packing and embroidery aspects of my job and have been told that I am a very quiet and efficient worker. The workshop takes care of me and provides me with medical, emotional and spiritual help. Each day we pray before we start work and on Mondays some of us meet for Bible study, which helps us with our problems.I am now confident about myself and know that I do not have to accept abuse or violence in my marriage.”
I found this gorgeous necklace, that would go perfectly with my scarf!
