Decorating Your Little One’s Room on a Budget

A lot of new parents suffer from a lot of confusion while decorating their baby’s room. If they choose to keep the baby’s gender a surprise, there is also the added stress of trying to keep the decor completely gender-neutral. Keep in mind, spending too much on a baby’s or a six to seven-year-old’s bedroom is unwise. Especially since you will probably need to redecorate in a few years.

When your child grows into a pre-teen and then a teen, their tastes and interests are likely to change. Therefore, it does not make a lot of sense to spend so much on a kid’s room. We have compiled some tips to help you stay on a budget and make sure you do not spend more than you need to!

Go For a Minimal Style

A minimalistic, chic look for your nursery or toddler’s room is the perfect way to go if you are looking to save money. Not only is it very light on the pocket, but also quite trendy. You do not need to spend a lot of money on furniture at all!

Instead, you can decorate minimally with less costly items like duvet covers and fluffy rugs. All necessary items of furniture for a baby’s room are really a crib, a changing table, and a place for the parents to sit, a rocking chair for example.

Do Not be Tempted by Designer Furniture

As we said before, it can be very tempting to splurge in your child’s room. You want the absolute best for them after all. But you must resist if you want to follow a budget! Designer furniture can be exorbitantly expensive at times. It is better to buy a good quality non-designer crib. They come in excellent designs that not only make those cribs functional but also aesthetically pleasing.

Use Paint to Make it a Little Vibrant

You went for a minimalist look. Now, it is possible you may be feeling like your energetic child’s room looks too dull. It does not seem to match its occupant’s energy. Not to worry! Grab some paint brushes and paint those walls Any color you want! Adding designs while painting is an excellent way to add some vibrance and character to your kid’s room. Not to mention, this is also a rather inexpensive method.

If painting seems too messy and laborious to you, an excellent alternative is using some fun wallpapers. This will give the room equal if not more vibrance. Plus, you do not need any artistic skills to make this look good.

Choose the toys Wisely

It is probably smart not to spend on a lot of toys for newborns since they have little to no use for them anyway. As your child grows into a toddler, you can get them some, and maybe something like a productivity station as well. With a chair and a table. Scattered with things like paper, colors, crayons, and play-dough.

Make sure these are all made from a light material like plastic. Your active young one can topple over almost anything so make sure it is not heavy enough to harm them. Some companies use injection molding manufacture as a method to create these plastic baby products. These tend to be quite lightweight. They also have larger components so nothing is a choking hazard to the kid.

Use What You Already Have!

Who told you you have to buy everything new for your baby’s room. That is not true at all. There are several pieces of furniture you have lying around that have functions in your baby’s room. For example, do you have a spare couch lying around that you just do not know where to put? Put it in your kid’s room!

Now, you do not have to through it out, spend extra on a sitting place in the baby’s room, and have a comfy place to sit and hold your baby. Do you have an extra dresser lying around? Or do you have the materials to build one? Use it as a changing table! That is not its only functionality either, you can store all your child’s clothes and necessities inside it too!

Thrifting is Your Best Friend!

You definitely do not need everything in your child’s room to be brand new. You should get a new crib for safety purposes, but other than that, you can totally opt for thrifting! Maybe a rocking chair, a rug, some painting, or a drawer set are some nice additions to the baby’s room you can buy second-hand.

Conclusion

Listen, we completely understand the need to splurge on your loved ones. And if you are well off, we are completely here for it!  But if you are still working your way to the top, it may be prudent to save up for things like your kid’s college tuition and your retirement. You may think that a few thousand dollars won’t make a difference, but trust us, they do!

One last budget-friendly tip to decorate your baby’s room is to add some plants and greenery to it. This not only gives some life to the room but instills a love of nature in your child from a young age. Something we all should have.
