You’re Losing Your Best Friend to Addiction

0

You don’t know how it all began, but your best friend is slipping away from you inch by inch. You’ve known each other forever, been by each other’s side for all of the good times and the bad. Now you fear for his life as you see your good friend sliding down the slippery slope of addiction. You’ve tried to be a solid support system, telling him that he needs help, offering to do anything you to get him sober once again. Sometimes, he laughs off your efforts. At others, he flies into a rage. You know that if he continues on this path, only a dead end lies ahead. You don’t know what to do.

Inpatient Therapy is the Answer
You do not have to fight for your friend by yourself. An inpatient rehabilitation program like Morningside will give your friend the resources he needs to overcome his addiction. The first step is getting him to admit that he is in trouble. Join together with his family and friends to surround him with your love. Don’t enable him in anyway. Catch him when he reaches rock bottom and guide him in the right direction. Turn to a facility like the Morningside Recovery Center to get him the help that he needs.

Someone Will be By His Side Every Step of the Way
One of the hardest parts of treatment for addiction is having to let go. You will need to allow your friend to enter an inpatient treatment program for the duration. It could be a period of thirty to ninety days, whatever is necessary for him to succeed. You won’t be able to be with him, but you can rest assured that he will be in good hands. Staff members will be there to care for your friend during the challenging phase of detoxification, as well as every other transition during the recovery process. While in treatment, your friend will no longer have access to the source of his addiction. He will take a hard look at his life and finally understand why he became a victim of addiction. From that point, it will be a period of discovery, learning how to avoid trigger factors and find healthy alternatives upon his release. When your friend has completed the program, you can be there to celebrate with him.
