What Are the Best Types of Cookware?

Did you know that 98% of Americans prefer to prepare meals at home? Also, 50% cook 3 to 6 days a week.

If these statistics have inspired you to turn on your stove more, then you might be wondering what types of cookware there are.

Asking yourself: what cookware should I buy? Then you’ll want to read on, as we’ll tell you what you need!

Stainless Steel

Do you like to cook things on the stove that need to be put in the oven later? Then stainless steel is a good choice since its material is oven-safe.

Also, you only need a little bit of butter or cooking oil to keep your food from sticking to the pan. This can keep things healthy!

However, if you cook foods with lots of acid, you might want to stay away from stainless steel. The acids can cause the metals in the pan to leech out. You also can’t use spray oils since it’ll create a sticky film that’ll make your food burn.

Aluminum

Aluminum is a very popular type of cookware. This is because unlike stainless steel, the metals won’t leech out into your food if you cook acidic foods. However, you do have to be gentle with the cookware; if you scrape it often, the metals will still leech out.

If you want nonstick cookware, you’ll get it with aluminum. You won’t have to add any fats at all to cook your food, so it’ll be the optimal choice for health-conscious home chefs.

You should never use spray oils on nonstick cookware. This will render the nonstick coating useless. You should also never use a broiler on it (oven use is ok).

Cast Iron

You don’t even need to ask, “is cast iron good?” The thing is, cast iron is a classic type of cookware for good reason. It can be used both on the stove and oven.

Also, the older your cookware gets, the more seasoned it becomes. This will make your cooking better and better.

Acidic foods might make some metals leech out, but it’s very minimal so it won’t matter much. If you take care to season your cookware right, it’ll last you a lifetime, and then some. It’s not uncommon to hear of people passing their cast iron cookware down from generation to generation.
