Raising kids is a full-time job, no question about it. Many moms today are the glue that holds their families together, from getting the kids ready for school to pay the bills to meal prep and schedule planning. Maybe there’s even a side hustle or full-time job on top of all that. To say today’s moms are buys would be a drastic understatement.
Unfortunately, it’s all too often that mom’s passion for fashion and style falls by the wayside given all of the things on her plate. And look, we totally get it. Who has time for it when your busy doing, well, just about everything else?
But there’s good news. One of the world’s most versatile gemstones emerged as a fashion frontrunner in 2017 and shows no signs of slowing down this year, either. With relatively little planning (and budget), pearls can be a mom’s best friend when it comes to creating fresh looks that insert personality, fun, and flair into the everyday fold.
Feeling a little lost? Not to worry – we have you covered. Here are three ways even the busiest of moms can capitalize on the popularity of pearls in 2018.
Layer
Nobody’s going to argue that a classic pearl necklace is absolutely beautiful. But layering is all the rage, and it’s super easy for even the busiest of moms to pull off one of this year’s hottest looks. Layering multiple pearl necklaces of varying length can bring a fresh vibe to your look, whether you pair it with denim or a nice blouse. You can pick up a few strands of freshwater pearls online for a pretty reasonable price, and don’t be afraid to experiment with color. Combine your gold and silver with pearls for a look you can pull off whether you’re running around with the kids or running around the office.
Go Edgy
So maybe classic white pearls aren’t your thing. You’re a young mom but still want to maintain your sense of rocker rebellion. Hey, we get it. There’s a little bit of that in all of us!
When most people think pearls, they probably think about classic, elegant strands of white pearl necklaces and stud earrings. And while white will never go out of style, there’s certainly nothing wrong with a little edge. Enter black pearls, a type that typically comes from the South Pacific (think French Polynesia) that still aren’t too well known in the U.S. A great pair of black pearl studs go extremely well with denim or leather (but honestly they pair well with just about anything, so don’t give us too much credit). Throw on a pair of boots and you’re ready for errands, brunch, business meetings, parent-teacher conferences…you name it.
And by the way, pearls come in a variety of colors you probably didn’t know about: pinks, blues, greens, golds and more. Experiment! You’ll be glad you did.
Accessorize
Beyond jewelry, that is. Sure, pearls look great in the form of earrings, necklaces, bracelets, pendants and more, but today’s designers have started weaving (literally) the gemstone into just about everything.
Take Ivanka Trump, for instance. Politics aside, she certainly knows how to dress. She’s been known to wear pearl-studded headbands, handbags, and hair clips. Point is, you don’t have to think of pearls in the traditional. Designers are working them into shoes, sweaters, dresses (we’re still not over Lupita Nyong’o’s pearl-studded Oscar dress from a couple of years back) and more.
Pearls show no signs of fading in popularity in 2018, and as a mom, you probably have no intention of slowing down either. But that doesn’t mean you can’t keep up with the trend. With some minimal planning, it’s easy to create a style you can call your own.
