Perfect Skin On A Budget (And When To Splurge)

3

Being told you have beautiful skin is hands down one of the best compliments anyone can receive. While some people won the genetic lottery straight up and didn’t do much to their faces aside from splashing some water on them, most people with beautiful complexions put a lot of time, effort, and money into them. Not everyone has the budget to do everything they want or need to do to their skin, so let’s look at some more affordable ways to achieve that perfect complexion we’re all chasing and maybe a couple of areas to splurge.

Find A Dermatologist

Most insurance companies cover dermatologist appointments and treatments, so this is an area where you can stay frugal and get max results. When you think about how much money you’ve thrown down the drain on over-the-counter products that didn’t deliver the results, they promised they could bum you out. Instead, make an appointment with a dermatologist to teach you your skin type and problems. Your dermatologist can prescribe you oral or topical medications that will help your skin concerns, and they’re likely covered by insurance. Your derm can make recommendations on OTC products that will work for you.

Shop OTC Smartly

When shopping for products from a drug or beauty store, make sure you’re doing so smartly. Most stores offer rewards programs, which many people politely decline at check out – but the truth is, the programs can save you a ton of money. Some even have apps that are easy to use and even easier to check out with your rewards dollars. These programs are another area where you can get closer to perfect skin while saving serious cash.

Indulge In Treatments

One area worth it to splurge is treatments that target specific concerns. While it’s essential to shop for products for dry skin if that’s your skin type, it’s equally necessary to splurge on facials to address your dry skin. Hydrafacials are an excellent option for this and anti-aging facials that focus a lot on maximum hydration. Other treatments worth the splurge are products like Botox and other injectables. While these treatments can range from $300 to $1000, virtually everyone that gets them will say they’re worth the expense.

You can spend a lot of time and put in a lot of effort to minimize your fine lines and wrinkles, and things still may not pay off – Botox can take this in a cinch. You can also spend a ton of time doing facial yoga and Gua Sha to try and improve skin’s plumpness and work on deeper lines, where fillers will give you instantaneous results. It’s important to note – if you do get filler or Botox, you will want to stop Gua Sha facial massaging as you can alter your results. But injectables are an area worth saving towards and splurging.

Water & Sleeping Are Free

One of the best things you can do for your skin is to make sure you get adequate sleep and stay hydrated. Good thing both rest and water are free. And hey – they say to get your beauty sleep and drink at least eight glasses of water a day – so it must help! Seriously, make sure you aim for at least eight hours of sleep each night and a gallon of water every day. You’ll see improvement in skin texture, plumpness, elasticity, and a clearer complexion.

DIY Where You Can

If you are a mindful spender, frugal, or maybe just creative, you probably dabble in a little bit of DIY. You can make your favorite skincare or even cosmetics from home. It takes trial and error, patience, and research – but it’s doable and pays off in serious savings. If you’re good at it, you could even turn it into a profitable side business, which means you’re not just saving – you’re earning!

While having gorgeous skin may feel like it comes with a steep price tag, the above list is proof that you shop smartly and even save for achieving a beautiful complexion. While it takes small investments along the way, once you reach the point where you want your skin to be, you’ll have learned enough to maintain it. Now, get glowing!
