How to Throw a Lavish Outdoor Dinner Party

1

Now that the world is slowly getting back to normal, more and more people are planning events.

Some people are choosing to throw elaborate dinner parties. This can be tricky, especially if you haven’t planned any events in a few years.

But we’re here to help. Let’s go through how to host an amazing outdoor dinner party.

Pick The Right Location

When you’re hosting an event in your home, it’s important to have the right set up in the area you’ve chosen.

For example, if you’re hosting an outdoor garden party, you need to ensure that you have adequate garden furniture for your outdoor living space.

Additionally, you need to be sure you have enough dishware and utensils so that all of your guests can eat your delicious food properly. Take an inventory before you send the RSVPs out so that you can buy more if needed.

Choose a Theme

Having an elaborate theme is a great way to ensure that your lavish outdoor party sticks out in your guest’s minds.

You can pick themes that are more laidback and only involve decor and the menu. Or, you can choose from themes that are more interactive. Some themes might require a costume element.

Some themes you might want to consider include:

  • Breakfast for dinner parties
  • Dinner parties for specific events, like the Academy Awards
  • Pop culture themes, like themes based on your favorite book, movie, or television show
  • Themes based around a certain variety of cuisine
  • Color-based dinner party themes, like shades of green or red
  • throwback themes, based on previous decades in food
  • Beach house or winter wonderland

But, you can also come up with your own theme that suits your friend group. It just takes a little bit of imagination.

Decide On The Menu

Once you have a theme picked out and the right setup, it’s time to choose an outdoor dinner party menu. You’ll want, at minimum, hors d’oeuvres, an appetizer round, a main course, and dessert. You can mix things up and do things tapas style or have a buffet.

You can also get more elaborate. One great dinner party idea is to have a tasting menu.

But, it’s important that all your dishes are cohesive but distinct. You don’t want a thousand different cauliflower dishes. However, you don’t want tastes that clash with one another. Look for ways you can create a throughline through all the meals.

And you need to consider dietary restrictions. Have vegetarian and/or vegan options for every meal. Inquire if any of your guests have dietary restrictions or allergies, and make adjustments based on their needs. It’s always important to be inclusive, after all.

Good advice. In general, if the occasion is good and you have a budget, I would also recommend hiring a DJ for such a party to make it unforgettable. It can help you take your event to the next level.
