Second, it is better to start on the top floor of your home and then work your way down when you deep clean your home. Start by getting rid of any clutter and garbage in the room you are in. Entryway

  • Wipe down corners and walls
  • Clean off door and doorknobs, disinfect
  • Windex door window
  • Clean doormat
  • Organize shoes, coats, and other items

Kitchen

  • Clean every appliance out, inside and out. This should include the dishwasher, microwave, refrigerator, freezer, and stove. Reorganize the refrigerator and freezer after you clean them out.

Bathrooms

  • Throw your shower curtain and liner into the wash for a deeper clean, rehang straight from the washing machine
  • Wash all bath mats
  • Clean off shower door, frame, and inside of the shower
  • Disinfect the countertops
  • Wipe down soap dispensers and toothbrush holders
  • Reorganize cupboards, drawers, and shelves
  • Refill soap holders
  • Scrub the toilet inside and out, especially along the bottom and under the seat
  • Clean out trash can and disinfect
  • Wipe down the towel racks, knobs, and toilet paper holder
  • Wash all towels and washcloths
  • Sweep and mop

Living Room

  • Clean out the corners of the walls and light fixtures
  • Dust ceiling fans
  • Dust any pictures, mirrors, and knick-knacks
  • Wipe down tables and end tables, polish with furniture polish
  • Clean and disinfect remote controls
  • Clean off window sills and Windex the windows
  • Vacuum under furniture and in-between the cushions; use the hose attachment to vacuum cushions
  • Take off cushion covers if possible and wash them in your washing machine
  • Wash throw pillows and throw blankets if possible
  • Dust the television set
  • Spot clean the walls
  • Vacuum the floor
  • Take down curtains and wash, wipe down blinds
  • Wipe off electrical outlets

Dining Room

  • Clean out the corners of the walls and light fixtures
  • Clean off light switches and outlets
  • Dust ceiling fan
  • Wipe down pictures, furniture, and floor molding
  • Disinfect the dining room table and chairs thoroughly
  • Wash chair cushions
  • Spot clean walls
  • Sweep, mop, and vacuum
  • Take down curtains and wash

Bedrooms

  • Clean out corners and dust ceiling
  • Dust the baseboards
  • Clean off window sills and Windex windows
  • Dust off any pictures or hangings
  • Dust off furniture and polish
  • Clean off any mirrors or glass

  • Dust ceiling fan
  • Strip bedding and wash

  • Flip mattress
  • Wipe down the headboard and baseboard of the bed

  • Vacuum under the bed

Laundry Area

  • Clean out corners and ceiling
  • Wipe down the top and sides of the washing machine and dryer
  • Organize shelves
  • Wipe out utility tub
  • Wipe down light fixtures and electrical outlets

  • Sweep, mop, and vacuum accordingly

Garage

  • Clean up and organize all clutter
  • Separate items into piles- one to get rid of, one to donate, and one to keep

  • Sweep and mop
  • Pressure wash concrete floors with an electric pressure washer
  • Put away tools, toys, gardening supplies, and other clutter

Outside the Home

  • Put away any clutter where it belongs
  • Sweep the patio, deck, and sidewalks
  • Use an electric pressure washer on the outside of a brick or vinyl-sided home as well as on the sidewalk, patio, and deck
  • A pressure washer can also be used to clean off sheds, garbage cans, steps, gutters, and fences

  • Use a carpet cleaner to thoroughly clean all of your carpets in your home as well as couch and chair cushions

Thank you for reminding me of such an important date. My parents were planning to visit me this year so I have to show them my ideal home. I have some breathing problems (asthma) so I am limited in my use of chemical household cleaners. I prefer to use other the ins and outs. I have learned to organically use gadgets for timely cleaning, so spring cleaning will not be a natural disaster for me.
