Finding Your Ideal Healthy Weight And Maintaining It

2

If you are trying to lose weight then you may have an ideal weight in mind that you would like to reach. However, it is not very often that people stop to check whether this target is a healthy weight for them.

There are many factors that should be taken into account when working out a healthy weight and it will not be the same for every person. One of the most common ways of working out what your healthy weight is to use the Body Mass Index or BMI.

What Is BMI?

Body Mass Index is a measurement that can tell you if you are a healthy weight for your height. You will need a calculator to work out your BMI and the Aaptiv calculator is one of the easiest to use online. Once you have entered your height and weight you will be told where you are on the scale. There is a section for healthy weight and this is the weight range that you want to be aiming for. There are other factors apart from height and weight that determine whether you are in a healthy weight range and there is some opinion that BMI is an outdated tool. However, it is still a good place to start for checking whether your target weight is healthy for you.

How Can A Healthy Weight Be Reached?

If you need to lose some weight in order to reach a healthy level, then you will need to create a calorie deficit by using more calories than you consume. This can be done by decreasing the amount of calories that you eat or increasing the amount of calories that you use each day. Most healthy eating plans combine the two by restricting the amount of calories that you eat and encouraging you to exercise more to burn more calories.

As long as you are counting the calories correctly then most foods can be eaten in moderation and this is a good way to make sure you are not depriving yourself.

How Can A Healthy Weight Be Maintained?

Once you have reached your target weight then you will want to be able to maintain it. You can increase the amount of calories that you consume each day, but many people still find it useful to track the calories to avoid putting the weight back on. This might not have to be done so religiously as when you were losing weight, but it is still a good idea to keep track of what you are eating. You will also find that you do not have to weigh yourself as often when you are maintaining your weight loss.

Losing weight is not easy and it will require some hard work and willpower. However, once you know what your healthy weight is then you will have a specific target to work towards. Finding your healthy weight can also help to improve your overall health and lower your risk for conditions such as diabetes and heart disease.
