Business Ideas To Invest In Amidst COVID-19

4

For the better part of the first half of 2020, everything has come to a standstill, thanks to COVID-19. Businesses have had to be shut down, and whole towns, even countries, put into an extended lockdown. Without movement, there is not much that people can do in regards to creating revenue.

However, for every crisis, there is always an opportunity. There are some business ideas that you can use to take advantage of the current situation.

The following are some businesses that you can set up right now to capitalize on the many opportunities available:

Pickup and Delivery

Delivery services were already on the rise even before the pandemic landed, but now more than ever before, they are in high demand. With people confined in their homes for weeks, they have no option but to rely on delivery to get basic things like food.

You will need to get approval from your local government, be declared healthy for you to start this venture. To maximize your profits, get in touch with all the local stores, and pitch your idea to them to become their official delivery service.

Having an app will also make the whole process much more manageable.

Home Schooling

Schools have been closed for over six months now. In some countries, the attempt to open them has only led to them being shut down again, but learning has to continue. If you have any qualifications, you can use your talents to conduct classes online. You could do it through video conferencing platforms like Zoom, charging a small fee.

The classes only need to take 3hrs a day.

Packaging

COVID-19 is a virus that spreads through contact. Being in close proximity to someone with it is a sure way of being infected. Touching surfaces that have been exposed to the virus is another high-risk point of inflection.

With deliveries taking over, packaging items well can stop the virus from seeping into food and other items. Canned food, for instance, can be safely packaged using an LPE can seaming machine to ensure nothing sneaks in. Once a customer receives the package, they may wash it first before storage as an extra precautionary measure.

E-Commerce Platforms

Providing websites through which people can shop without having to go to the store physically is the perfect business in the current climate. First, you will need to enter into an agreement with stores in your neighborhood: the more that come on board, the wider the options. Once that has been cleared, get certified delivery riders.

Set up an app that shows all the stories in the area so that people can have the choice of buying from whoever they want.

Virtual Gyms

Fitness instructors can set up a paid subscription fitness channel on any of the many social media platforms. Streaming is very easy in this day and age, which means you can broadcast your fitness routines live to your audience. You can supplement this with a fitness app that helps people keep fit by jogging or simply working out in their own homes.

People are turning towards digital platforms for all their workout needs during lockdowns. If you can afford to set up a gym in your own home then that’s the best option.

Entertainment

For creatives, social media platforms are a blessing in disguise for those that know how to use them. People are now spending more time on their phones during this lockdown as they have nothing else to do. This is an audience that is just waiting to be exploited.

If you are an artist of any kind, you can set up a channel on platforms like YouTube or TikTok and cash in on the views you generate. Youtube has an outstanding program that pays people very decent money based on views. All you will need is to put up content that can generate views instantly.

Gaming Services

If you are a game developer and you have been working on a project for years, this is the right time to launch it. When people are under mandatory lockdown, there is not much that they can do. Watching movies all day is bound to get tiresome at some point. When it comes to gaming, possibilities are limitless.

With an audience ready to consume anything that gets thrown their way, a game launch at this point will be an immediate big hit. However, make sure it is a good product; people being idle does not necessarily mean they can tolerate subpar things.

Insurance

This might be too much of a tall order for most, but never before has insurance become so crucial than right now. With jobs virtually non-existent, many people are right now, depending on the goodwill of their insurance companies.

If you have the fund, start an insurance company that solely focuses on the virus, and people will stream your way. People need insurance to keep their families standing as their savings dwindle during these hard times.

Set up a Funeral Home

As much as it hurts and as much as this may look darkly opportunistic, business is business. The United States of America alone has had over 130,000 COVID-19 deaths. Most people who die from the diseases do not even get to be properly mourned by their relatives.

Starting a funeral home right now can provide these families with the chance to bury their loved ones properly. Of course, the whole encounter will have to be operated with all the safety protocols observed, but it would be a welcomed idea.

Hospitals and morgues can barely handle the vast number of dead bodies; a private funeral home can help ease that pressure a little.

Conclusion

The pandemic is not showing any signs of slowing down anytime soon; this means more sacrifices will have to be made. As you sit down to come up with an idea for a business, let it be along the line of helping others more than turning up profits. It is always during times of crisis that humans show their most endearing trait, compassion.
