5 Tips for Planning a Fun Weekend Getaway

1

There are few things better than a weekend getaway; whether it’s been planned for months, or is a whirlwind last minute decision. The anticipation felt during a Friday at work, knowing you’re out the door and on the road at 5pm, is exhilarating.

Weekend breaks can be the remedy to reconnect with a friend or reignite the spark in a romantic relationship. If you aren’t traveling a long distance, weekend getaways are also quite gentle on the bank balance. For all these reasons and more, should you be organizing more fun weekends away?

Here are five tips to help you get planning.

Pick your ideal getaway partner

Mini breaks always run most smoothly when you jet off with a likeminded friend or partner; you’ll find deciding where to go, what to do and how much to spend far easier if you want similar things from your trip. Make sure you establish up front what you’re both expecting, to ensure you’re on the same page.

Plan ahead for your destination

Preparation is important for a weekend getaway; you’ve not got long, perhaps only one or two nights, so you want to maximize your time effectively.

Do your research to ascertain what must-see activities there are where you’re headed, and decide on one of two things you simply must do. You needn’t rush around if you’re taking a break to relax. Yet, pinpointing just a handful of pastimes will ensure you don’t finish the break feeling you missed out.

Pack appropriately to avoid frustration

Whilst it’s true that almost everywhere you go, you’ll be able to pick up any items you forgot to pack (toothbrush, pajamas, etc.) a little forward thinking will guarantee you pack appropriately for your destination and the activities you’ve got in mind.

If you know you’re looking for a getaway with a hint of luxury, pack yourself a gorgeous new dress to wear. Go out and treat yourself to something from your favorite store, or find petite, curvy, hourglass or plus size dresses online, so you’ll feel a million bucks when you head out on the town.

Leave some things to chance too!

Of course, spontaneity is also important — but can you truly plan to be spontaneous? The way to do it is make sure you don’t fully book up all your time, so you can make a few last-minute decisions. Perhaps you’ll end up playing 3 card poker in a bar after hours? Or catching a breathtaking sunset? You don’t want to miss out on these unexpected delights, because you planned too hard.

Take lots of photos!

You’re bound to have so much fun on your weekend getaway; you’ll want to remember these days for years to come. That’s why you should try to take as many photos as you can, to capture the moments. When you return home, why not blow the best shots up onto a photo canvas, or frame them to display in your home?

Don’t put off planning your next weekend break; there’s no time like the present!
