If you haven’t visited before – and even if you have, there are still plenty of things to do in California. Not sure how to narrow them down? We’ve found 4 of the best must-visit California attractions.
1. Yosemite National Park
One of the most gorgeous places to visit in California is Yosemite. With over 1,100 miles of park, there’s a lot to see at Yosemite National Park. The park is famous worldwide and was even designated a World Heritage Site.
What makes Yosemite so special? Biological and environmental diversity. The park is home to giant sequoia groves, cliffs, waterfalls, and canyons.
The park is open year-round, so no matter what season you decide to visit California you can check out Yosemite. Even in winter, you can enjoy activities like skiing and snowshoeing.
2. San Diego Zoo
The San Diego Zoo is regarded as one of the best zoos in the nation. It’s home to over 12,000 rare and endangered animals. The zoo also has a botanical garden that showcases over 700,000 individual plants.
The Zoo’s focus is on education and conservation. They partner with organizations and nonprofits around the world to present solutions for wildlife conservation.
3. The Getty Center
Few museums are as comprehensive as The Getty Center. The Getty Center features art from renowned artists.
Many famous paintings call The Getty Center home. A few examples include:
- Rembrandt Laughing by Rembrandt
- Irises by Vincent Van Gogh
- Bullfight by Francisco de Goya
The museum also houses hundreds of manuscripts and antiquities. Along with world-famous art, the Getty Center also features gorgeous views of Los Angeles and four outdoor gardens. Best of all, admission is free.
4. Disneyland Resort
It’s impossible to talk about tourist attractions in California and not mention Disneyland resort. Disneyland Resort is really two different parks: Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure, so if you’re planning a family vacation to California, Disneyland Resort is a great choice.
The original Disneyland Park has undergone a lot of changes since its inception in 1955. It was originally the only Disney park in the resort and was the only park overseen by Walt Disney himself. As a result, Disneyland Park is a fan favorite.
Its iconic centerpiece is the Sleeping Beauty Castle. Other long time favorites of Disneyland Park include:
- Main Street, U.S.A. – a midwestern turn in the design of the early 20th century
- Frontierland – a series of attractions themed around the American frontier
- Adventureland – a tropical setting with adventure-themed attractions such as the Jungle Cruise
Disney California Adventure features licensed areas such as Avengers Campus and Pixar Pier. The park also highlights the history of California, which is done through themed lands like Hollywood Land. Hollywood Land celebrates the Golden Age of 1930s Hollywood.
Disneyland is big enough to offer something for everyone, so expect a trip there to take you several days. There are several nearby hotels. If you’re not sure where to stay check out some Disneyland hotel reviews.
