For many parents, caring for their children comes first. After this primary responsibility, however, many parents place work as a secondary priority. This could be because they are sole providers, contribute to paying the bills in the house, or have a passion for the work they do. Although all of these reasons are valid for wanting to be a working parent, trying to figure out how to work and parent simultaneously can be difficult. Aside from feeling like you’re in an ongoing circus act when trying to juggle parenting, your career and other aspects of your life, childcare can also be a hindrance. This article will, therefore, look at a few ways that you can work while raising a young child.

How to Work While Raising a Young Child

Put them in Daycare

One of the most common options for working parents when it comes to childcare is to put your child in a daycare. Although this is a common option, it isn’t always favorable for parents because of the skyrocketing costs of childcare. You should, therefore do your research and check how much daycare centers in your area cost and subtract that from your expected earnings. You should then see whether or not working will be worthwhile, and if not, you know the salary bracket that you should be aiming for.

It may also please you to know that there are a number of benefits of putting your child in daycare for you as a parent.  Some of them include the opportunity to develop relationships with other parents, decreased risk of depression, and the potential of improving your financial status. Aside from daycare, you could also consider enrolling your child in a Pre Prep School in Surrey as they offer 50 weeks of learning and childcare provision as well as help you align your school day with your working day.

Work Part-Time

If daycare isn’t a viable option for you, it might be a good idea to consider getting a part-time job. Some tips for finding part-time work include putting together a good resume, looking the part, not letting rejection get you down, and following up where need be. It isn’t always easy to find a part-time job, however, try to be persistent and not get discouraged if you don’t seem to be making progress. Some job roles to consider are working in a bookshop, becoming a financial services representative, working at a department store, or getting a job in a pet shop. The key is to look for roles that are flexible in terms of the days and hours that you can work.

Work from Home

If all else fails, you may need to think about how you can work from home. This is your chance to be creative and explore ways that you can monetize your skills. You could decide to sell baked goods if you’re into baking, start a blog if you’re a prolific writer, or sell products online if you have a knack for sales. There are so many ways you can make money from home in this digital age. If you’re able to do so successfully, you should be able to cut childcare costs as well as have the flexibility you need as a working parent.

You shouldn’t ever have to feel guilty about wanting to work while raising a young child or to be a parent who works no matter how old your children are. You also shouldn’t have to sacrifice one for the other if you take the time to explore your options. No matter what solution you come up with, you should be prepared for the challenges you will face. These include a constant race against time and continuously trying to strike a balance. You should, however, rest assured that at the end of it all, if you’re determined enough to be a working parent, you will find a way to do just that.
