The Best Concealer for the Mature Mom

2

Concealer can be the make or break-it item for your beauty routine. Whether you’re young and looking to brighten under your eyes or a mature mom that simply wants to hide a blemish, a concealer can be your new best friend.

Let’s start off with how concealers work

A concealer is similar to a foundation and is meant to hide blemishes and other spots such as acne, wrinkles and more. Unlike foundation, concealers are a thicker substance that should always be applied on top of your foundation. There are different concealer types – like the color correcting ones that target specific blemishes such as hyper-pigmentation and reddened skin. Concealers are meant to hide flaws while at the same time make the skin glow. Most women, apply concealer first as a spot treatment to hide any areas that you don’t want seen and then foundation comes after, to even out your complexion.

To summarize, foundations are meant to blend into your skin tone and concealer is meant to “conceal”. Choosing a concealer that is a shade lighter or darker than the foundation is acceptable – depending on how you choose to use it. To hide difficult blemishes, some women find it best to apply a shade darker. However, if you’re trying to brighten up under your eyes, try going a shade lighter.

So how to choose the perfect concealer for you?

Your skin type can tell you a lot about what nourishment and care your skin needs in a product. Whether you are a mature mom with fine lines and wrinkles, or you have dry sensitive skin, or are dealing with adult acne – considering your skin type should be the first thing you do when buying any makeup product.

Different Skin Types to Consider

We all have different skin types. And they all have their own characteristics and require different kinds of care. Based on the balances of different factors – such as sebaceous secretions, hydration and sensitivity, in combination with genetics, there are five different types of skin:

  1. Normal Skin – the skin has normal texture, soft appearance and doesn’t need any special care
  2. Sensitive Skin – prone to react to stimuli. Symptoms might include tightness, heat, redness and itching.
  3. Dry Skin – skin feels tight and rough.
  4. Oily Skin – has a porous, humid and bright appearance. Prone to pimples.
  5. Combination Skin – characteristics of both dry and oily skin.

So how to choose the perfect concealer for you?

Your skin type can tell you a lot about what nourishment and care your skin needs in a product. Whether you have fine lines and wrinkles, sensitive skin, dry skin, oily skin or are dealing with adult acne – considering your skin type should be the first thing you do when buying any makeup product.

For the Mature Mom…

Depending on the type of skincare routine (either minimalist or maximalist) that your younger self followed, skin routines always change over time to tailor to your needs. Naturally, the visual signs of aging includes deep wrinkles, sun spots, loose skin and discoloration which a lot of mature women like to hide.

It’s no secret that keeping skin looking younger than the actual age is based on how well you care for the skin, but in addition to taking really amazing care of the skin, it’s no surprise that strategic products such as concealer can significantly contribute to people never guessing your true age.
