Did You Know The First Aviator Sunglasses Were Made by Ray-Ban?

The first aviator sunglasses were made by Ray-Ban for fighter pilots in World War II and while they experienced an initial dip in popularity, aviators made a resurgence in popularity when Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer sported them in the 1986 action flick Top Gun. Fast forward to today and many high-end brands have produced their own versions of aviator sunglasses, including luxe designer Tom Ford.

If you’re considering purchasing your own pair, you can feel confident with The Tom Ford FT0035 Charles model. Tom Ford sunglasses offer some of the most luxurious styles around with each frame being hand made in Italy. These sunnies in particular feature a classic aviator shape and unique elements like the sleek metal frames and full rim, oversized frames encasing smooth polycarbonate lenses.

For ordinary folk, polycarbonate may not mean much but it’s pretty much the best type of lens material available on the market. Finer details come in the ‘Tom Ford’ logo engraved on the lens and temple pieces and to finish it off a double bridge connecting the two lenses. The model is available is a whole host of colors like black/gold with brown gradient lenses, gunmetal grey with grey gradient lenses as well as our favorite shown below.
