How to Blog and Live in a Tidy House

Mommy bloggers are a passionate bunch. From sunup to sundown and beyond, a blogging career can be all-consuming.  Maintaining a successful blog means there is always one last job to do, post to write, tweet to send out, or Facebook post to publish.  

Plus, there’s usually a young family to feed, bathe, and put to bed. It’s a daily struggle to get everything done, sacrifices are made, and work-life balance can suffer. 

Unfortunately, one area busy mom bloggers often let lapse is in keeping the home neat, tidy, organized, and clean. After all, when you bring yourself to finally shut down the computer for the night, who has the energy to clean the house or run around picking up after the kids?

As with most things in life, not letting the situation develop into an overwhelming mess is key to always being in control. Here are a few strategies you can use to keep your house clean while also managing a busy blog. 

Create and Stick to a Schedule

When your life is full of variables, it can be hard to stick to a cleaning schedule, but you should still create one; just don’t set it in stone and then get all stressed out when you can’t dust on a Tuesday like you planned.  Keep it simple, such as cleaning one room a week, or vacuuming every third day. 

Do Regular Spot Cleaning

You would be surprised at how much cleaning you can get done when you spot clean a little every day. When you notice little things like dust around the TV or a cobweb in the corner, you should take care of it straight away. The point is not to let things build-up. 

Deal with the little things when you see them, and you won’t have to cope with a bigger mess later on. You can use these micro-cleaning sessions as an excuse to get up out of your chair every hour or so to move your body and be a little more active.

Clean As You Go

You can give the kitchen cupboards a good wipe-down while you wait for the rice to cook, clean the bathroom basin while you clean your teeth, or scrub the shower cubicle while you have a shower. 

Delegate Tasks

If your children are old enough, you can enlist their help with some of the more straightforward jobs like sweeping the verandah, packing the dishwasher, or walking the dog. Every little bit helps, and the more hands you can get on deck, the better.

You could try every trick in the book to keep your house tidy. However, when it comes to deciding between spending quality time with your family or cleaning the house, it’s the former that usually wins, especially after a busy week.
