How To Beat The Allergy Season

3

The spring and summer seasons are some of the most beautiful and popular times of the year. The sunny skies, warm weather, and various reasons to get outdoors and have a good time make them a personal favorite for many people. Of course, if you suffer from seasonal allergies, these next few months are likely uncomfortable and grueling. There’s nothing like an itchy throat, watery eyes, runny nose, and endless sneezing to put a damper on your day.

Luckily, there are practical solutions to ease your symptoms so you can enjoy the warm weather and great outdoors.

Stay Indoors When Pollen Count Is High

While you don’t want to allow your allergies to ruin your fun, there are days when staying indoors is ideal. Before planning your day, check the local pollen count to see where it ranks. If it’s on the high side, it may be best for you to plan something indoors to avoid triggering your allergies.

Keep Your House Tidy

Whether you know it or not, plenty of allergy triggers are present in the home. Dust, dander, pollen, and other allergens enter your house through the ventilation system, open windows, your pets, and from your clothing. It disperses into the air and populates on hard and porous surfaces. Ensure your home is safe and healthy by keeping up with regular household chores like sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, doing laundry, cleaning upholstery, and wiping down hard surfaces.

OTC Or Prescription Meds

If your seasonal allergies are bad, you may need to take medication to ease the symptoms. You can find plenty of over-the-counter options at a local pharmacy for children and adults. Another option is to visit a doctor or allergist to get prescription medications. Ensure that you take your medications as prescribed or instructed to keep those allergy symptoms at bay.

Natural Remedies

There are some natural options you can consider for those who aren’t fond of taking medication or find that they aren’t effective. They’re all-natural, have fewer (if any) side effects, and can relieve your symptoms for hours. You can take individual supplements like nettle root, holy basil, and olive leaf extracts individually or opt for an allergy defense tonic that incorporates all the essential supplements and herbs you need to feel your best.

Wear A Mask

While everyone wishes the days of mask-wearing were behind us, protection from viral diseases isn’t the only reason to wear one. If you’re going to be in a place that triggers your allergies, wearing a mask can prevent allergens from entering your airways. Wearing a mask may be ideal when you’re at work or engaging in outdoor activities, as you can’t control these environments.

Stay Hydrated

Increasing your water intake during the warmer months is ideal for helping keep up with water loss. However, it’s also beneficial to allergy sufferers. Water can help thin mucus and flush toxins from the body, reducing allergy triggers. Ideally, you should drink at least eight glasses of water a day, but you may need more if you want to keep those allergies at bay. Keep a temperature-controlled water bottle with you so you can sip throughout the day and feel great.

Steaming

On days you’re feeling extra stuffy, there’s nothing like steaming to thin the mucus and relieve the pressure. Boil a pot of water, grab a towel, and place it over your head as you lean over the pot and inhale the steam. You can even add some essential oils to help enhance your healing.

Seasonal allergies are the worst. Unlike a cold, flu, or other sicknesses that go away with time, allergies tend to stick around. They’re especially troubling during the warmer months when allergens, hot temperatures, and humidity are at an all-time high. Rather than falling victim to your allergies, use some of the tips listed above to beat this uncomfortable condition and take back your spring and summer.
