Mud room. Growing up, I never knew what it was. I had this vague idea that it was a room with no floor, literally a mud floor, hence mud room. Now that I am grown I know what it is, and dearly wish I had one. At my house you go right from the garage to the kitchen. The back door opens to the living room. The front door opens to the living room. So no matter where you enter my house when it’s pouring down rain or mud or snowing out, you track in a mess. You have nowhere to take off coats, take off boots, hang up umbrellas, get rid of the snow. It’s a mess. Oh, did I mention we have dogs. Two dogs. Let me tell you how much fun it is getting them in when the aforementioned weather is happening.
Well, now I have a solution. It doesn’t really help with the dogs, because they’re dogs and there’s really no helping them, I still love them, but dogs are just messy. Well, the kid and the hubby are messy too, but for the two legged people in my life, I have a solution. It comes from Everything Doormats. Step one is a doormat. I know, haha, very original. But this isn’t any doormat. Well it is any doormat. Literally. You start with a mat tray. This is the rubber part. Then you can get different inserts for different times of the year. So it’s not December and you’re showing your Halloween doormat. Or June and you have the Christmas doormat out. I’ve never done that, really, don’t judge me. The next part is a boot tray. What is a boot tray you ask? Don’t worry, I had to ask the same thing. It’s a large shallow bronze tray that you can put your boots and shoes in when you come in so they don’t drain and melt all over your floor. Talk about awesome. I never even knew these existed, and now that I do, I couldn’t live without one. After all the late snow we got and the massive amount of rain, they were a godsend. Now if I could just find a hermetically sealed bubble for the dogs to shake off in, we’d be all set.
