When I first heard of this idea from creator Susan Agostinelli I was very excited. The thought that children across the United States could have a way of being protected in the event of a school shooting or even a stray bullet on their walk to school or back home was like Wow. Why did this idea take so long to come into play?
When Was the First Documented School Shooting?
I decided to look back and see when the first documented school shootings occurred. I was surprised to see that the first known/dated on was in 1874. The Enoch Brown school massacre during the Pontiac’s War totaled 10 dead and 2 injured. So although school shootings are more well known now due to the news and social media, they have been happening for hundreds of years. We just didn’t know about them because the word didn’t travel like it does today.
I was born in 1969 so I was curious how many school shootings had occurred from 1874-January 1969. One hundred and forty. That is only the number of shootings, not a number of kids and teens shot. Since 1969 there has been well over 300 more school shootings.
We protect our children in car seats and booster seats in our vehicles. We want them to be safe and protected. I am hoping the Millennium Shield backpack takes off like wildfire for our children.

Very smart product but also very sad that we have to come to these measures. It looks incredibly sturdy so it’s reassuring to see how well-built it is. Neoprene is used in high-quality school bags, so this one must be made very well.

This is truly an amazing idea, seeing that it doesn’t weight much it wouldn’t be a hindrance to any students. It’s so sad that they “have” to create something like this for the evolving never changing world that we are living in. But being able to protect the youth of the nation is extremely important.
Wow, this post really gives me chills. It’s heartbreaking that there is even a market for such a product. That being said, and knowing the world we live in, it is very smart.
While I think it is a great concept because it is the fact of our world right now but it makes me sad and scared to even think and worry about this for our kids. I do think we have to prepare our kids for anything. thanks for the very informational post on this product.
This is a really innovative product. It would make a really great gift for someone who fears their child may be caught in the line of fire or just in general. This isn’t something that you can just give your kids and let them go, they need to truly understand how to use it.

I hate that something like this is needed but I am so proud of the idea and concept behind it. The need to protect our children from dangers like this is an unfortunate reality but being prepared for it can help make that less of a risk.
The sad thing these days is that this even has to be a thing to fear. But at this rate, this is good for more than just at schools. This is a pretty awesome idea, will have to check out this kickstarter.
