If you receive a high water bill what could be the cause?

0

You will normally be used to your water bill being at a certain level as most of the time a household tends to use a consistent amount of water. If your water bill is suddenly higher than usual there must be a reason. Of course, it’s possible that you know what this is. You may have had extra people to stay in your home for instance.

There is only a problem if your water bill suddenly increases and you cannot think of any logical reason for this happening. This usually happens when an issue is causing you to use more water than you think. It’s important that you find out what the issue is so that you can resolve it and get your water bills back to normal. Let’s take a look at issues you may want to check for.

Pipes and taps that are leaking

Both a leaking tap and a leaking pipe can be a big source of water loss. A significant amount of water can be lost each day through a leaking tap alone; up to as much as 20 gallons. That is a fairly shocking figure. You can see how something as simple as a leaking tap in your home can end up costing you money when it comes to your water bill.

If you do not deal with a tap that is dripping or leaking, not only will your water bills continue to be high, you will also be wasting water every day. If you are not confident to address the problem yourself then you should just call a reputable Sydney plumber to help you out.

The problem with a leaking toilet

Another problem that can help to waste water in your home, and cost you money, is a leaking toilet. The flush ball valve in a toilet can cause it to leak, if there are problems with it. In order to check if this is the case you should take the top off the toilet tank and give the toilet a flush.

After you have done this you then need to allow the tank to fill again before you put some drops of dye in the water. Once you have added the dye you should leave the toilet for around twenty minutes and when you return, if you can see any of the color of the dye in the toilet bowl you have identified a problem with the flush ball valve. You may want to try and resolve the issue yourself, or enlist the services of a professional.

It’s also worth noting that there can be other issues which cause a toilet to leak so you should always have your toilet checked if you suspect there is a leak present. One thing is certain; there is always a reason for an increase in a water bill and you should always make sure you identify what it is as soon as possible.
