5 “Mom” Movies & Shows on Hulu – Watch Solo or with Kids!

After a long tiring day at home (and office), the least we moms deserve is good escapist entertainment, where we can just curl up on the couch, fire up our streams, and forget it all. Someone pass the hot chocolate, please! 

Well, guess what…that’s exactly what we’re going to do today!

From the feel-good to the tearjerkers, we’ll review the five best mom movies and shows on Hulu that you can watch solo and have a great me-time. Or, if you like, you can bond over them with your little princess and try out something different than your usual girls-only dinner plans.

Bridget Jones’ Diary

A delectable British rom-com, Bridget Jones’ Diary takes you back to your good ol’ twisted days, where you had your younger-self telling you to finally stop worrying about finding a boyfriend, so that you could actually find a boyfriend. The messed-up codes of the grown-up world—ha! 

The movie stars Renée Zellweger in the female lead role, who works in publishing, is boozy and garrulous by nature, and has no serious relationship. Until, two handsome men enter her life—her boss Daniel Cleaver (played by Hugh Grant); and a childhood acquaintance, now barrister, Mark Darcy (performed by Colin Firth). 

Who is the chosen one for Bridget? Prepare to be surprised.

Good Girls

Another one in the “me-time” category but this time a TV show, Good Girls is all about mothers and their love for their family. It’s addictive, impossible not to like, and filled with tense cliff-hanger moments. Oh, and it’s sweet and playful too! 

The story follows three suburban moms who live in Michigan, struggling to make ends meet. The solution they come up with? To rob a local supermarket. However, little do they realize they’re entering the lion’s den. Soon, they end up biting off more than they can chew, and things take an unexpected turn. 

Part Breaking Bad, most Good Girls, this is one show that would help you unwind and relax.

Mother is an emotionally powerful and moving film that seemingly has a straightforward plot. Hye-ja Kim, who stars in the lead role of the “mother”, lives with her 27-year old mentally-challenged son (Do-Jun) in a small town in southern South Korea. She sells medicinal herbs, roots, and spices to provide for her small family. 

One day, Do-Jun arrives home in a confused state, only to be revealed later that he has been involved in the murder of a young girl. But is that actually true? The mother knows her son is innocent, and she’s ready to take on anyone, any institution to prove it. A word of advice: Don’t make this force of nature angry!

From a mom-son movie to a mom-daughter TV sitcom, Mom is one adorable ride across the highs and lows of the wonderful relationship a mother and a daughter share. It will crack you up, make you go “aww!”, and keep you coming back for more through its close-to-real-life story depth. 

The show’s plot centers on Anna Farris, playing as a single mother Christy Plunkett, who wants to have the “normal” back in her life after successfully fighting off her alcoholic past. Her mother, Bonnie Plunkett (Allison Janney), has come to stay with her—to her frustration. Meanwhile, Christy’s daughter Violet (Sadie Calvano), is pregnant by her boyfriend. Together, the family tries to help each other out and stay strong in the face of adversities and conflicts. You wouldn’t like to miss out on this one! 

A Quiet Place

You know when your little one is sleeping in the room, and you can’t make any noise, else it would wake them up? Shush. Turn off the radio. Keep the headphones aside. We (moms) know how to pull it off in a quiet place. 

But in Emily Blunt’s Quiet Place world, things are different. They are scary, ugly, and heart-fluttering. Even if you make the slightest of noise, THEY will hear you and come after you wild and fast. No, you are not even allowed to groan in pain if a rusty nail goes straight through your foot.  Not ready to practice? Then this version of quiet place is not for you!

So what say? Lights out, phone off, and Hulu on?
