4 Funtastic Ideas For Shopping For Clothes With Your Tween Girls

4

When your daughter becomes a tween, there are going to be several noticeable changes in her behavior, and one of the key areas is with her fashion and style. She’s going to have more opinions, want to have more of a say in her outfits, and she might want to dress a bit more trendy. She will also probably want to totally overhaul her closet, which is easier said than done.

As a parent, shopping for a tween girl comes with a whole new set of challenges. The good news is, it doesn’t have to stress you out – you can turn it into something awesome. How do you make sure you get stuff she likes? Is it possible to actually have fun while you shop for clothes with a pre-teen girl? Here are a few pointers that will make this process easier.

Create Pinterest Boards & Mood Boards

In order to take a lot of the stress and guesswork out of the shopping process, it helps for you to be starting from the same page, or the same moodboard! An extensive planning phase allows you to see what styles your daughter likes, her style icons and the kinds of outfits she’d like to wear. This is where Pinterest comes in, you can create a shared board, do a search for outfits, and start saving them to the board. What’s great is that Pinterest also features online buys so you can actually start buying her clothes you saw on the site. Additionally, you can create a moodboard so she gets an idea of the vibe she’s going  for. This is a great first step because you get to learn the direction she wants to take her wardrobe in, and you can create a board for her to start out on.

Have Fun Together

Shopping for clothes doesn’t have to be a tiresome experience, it can be a fun time for bonding with your daughter. Turn a shopping day into a girls day out with a little bit of self-care in the mix. Get mani-pedis, and go for a great lunch, and do a proper shopping spree where you both shop for new clothes. If you really want to make it more fun, wear matching outfits and enjoy getting to dress alike. Make her choose what you’ll wear so that her opinion and her voice feels heard and celebrated.

Shop Online

Another way to bond over some shopping with your tween girl is to get all your new clothes without leaving your home. Online shopping is a great way to buy new things without walking around malls and shops. You can open up your laptop, serve up some ice-cream and shop together. You get to talk about fashion, tell her about your own style, and help her find the style that she likes and then buy the clothes. Once the clothes are delivered, you can have a fun try-on fashion show together.

Shoot a Lookbook

For tween girls, fashion is just another channel of self-expression as they try to learn who they are. As a parent you can easily help your daughter build her confidence in her own style by bringing some creativity to it. You can help her create her own fashion lookbook, by having her create a week’s worth of outfits, and do a really fun photo and video shoot, which you can do on your phone, and then edit together using a simple app and adding music for a cute little video.

She can share the video with her friends or just enjoy doing a fun fashion shoot supported by you. It might seem minor, but something like a lookbook is an awesome little gift that you can give your young fashionista, and as her style shifts and changes over time, you can create more lookbooks which she’ll get a kick out of looking at later!

Buying new clothes for your tween daughter can actually be a really fun experience. It doesn’t have to be difficult or turn into a stressful process if you go in with the mindset of bonding, learning about your daughter’s fashion sense, and finding out what her style identity is. The goal of this is to help her build her confidence in her own individuality, without her learning some of the more toxic self-image messages that are taught to young girls. You want to raise a confident but humble young girl who is comfortable in her own skin, but still willing to experiment with fashion. If you nurture that kind of environment for her, she will be all these things and more.
