How to Make the Most Out of Your Small Nursery

3

Preparing your home for a new baby can be a challenging task, but it can also be an exciting one. It can be overwhelming if you are struggling to find space for all your baby’s gifts from friends and family. This is especially true if you have a small nursery.

Most modest city homes and apartments only have secondary rooms that are slightly larger than a suburban walk-in closet. You may need help to see a design layout that will work for your child’s nursery when you are tight on space.

The critical thing to remember is that your baby is tiny and only needs your attention and care, not necessarily a sprawling nursery. For tips regarding bringing your baby home for the first night, check out Bizzie Mommy. Let’s take a closer look at a few ways to make the most out of your small nursery.

 Multi-Purpose Furniture

If there is not a lot of space in your nursery, it may seem impossible to think of anything more than a crib when it comes to furniture. A great way to reduce your furnishings is to invest in multi-purpose pieces. Consider adding a charming toy box that can also be used as a seating area if you do not have a lot of space. Or, you can find a dresser for all your baby’s clothing that doubles as a changing table.

Shelves and Hooks

Your baby’s nursery may have limited square footage, but there are plenty of options when you take advantage of your ceiling and wall space. You can eliminate toy boxes, bookcases, and places to store extra clothing with the proper shelving. Don’t forget about your nursery ceiling. You can hang innovative storage containers, baskets, and nursery decor by mounting various overhead hooks without taking up any floor space.

Closet Space

The closet will also be a space constraint if you have a small nursery. One great advantage of children’s clothing is that you don’t have to worry about it taking up much space in your home. You can double your hanging space by adding a lower hanger bar and dividing the closet into an upper and lower area. You can add various baskets, shelving, or racks to keep all your baby’s clothing and shoes.

Light Color Scheme

Keep in mind that if your nursery is cramped, you should avoid using deep or bright colors in it. While these color schemes can be dramatic and fun, they will make your space look smaller than it is. It is important to keep your color scheme light and airy. For the best effect, stay with whites and light pastels to help your nursery appear larger.

Use Natural Light

If your nursery has a window, even a small one, you must take advantage of the natural light. A pull-down blind is your only cover for your nursery window. It is essential to allow bright sunshine into your nursery as it will help to make it feel larger and airier.

If you are concerned that your nursery will be too crowded and cramped for your child, follow some tips to make the most out of your space.

Also, consider installing a sliding door. Sliding doors require no floor space, allowing you to arrange furniture and décor however you wish. This is especially useful in smaller rooms where floor space is precious, but wall space is plentiful.

French doors are also a great option if you would like to create more open space and bring more natural light into a small nursery.
