Essentials for Planning the Perfect Family Movie Night

1

Quarantine is at its peak, and we just watched Mr. Kate revamp the LaBrant family’s home movie theater for an exquisite fun-filled family movie night, and now we want the same for ourselves. But neither are we Mr. Kate, not do we have the time to revamp a whole room into a mini-theater, what would be the best option now?

Makeshift movie night! Who says you need a theater to plan a movie night with your family? A lounge with comfortable seating and a screen is more than enough, paired with some other extra amenities like food, snacks, blankets, and more. But what is essential, and how can you organize it all without forgetting anything.

We have prepared the list of the most important items required so you won’t forget them in the excitement of hosting your very own family movie night in your home.

Movie selection

What is a movie night without a complete movie menu? But really. It is the first thing you should get out of your way, or else it takes a long, long time for families to agree on a movie according to everyone’s liking. If you want family-friendly options, then Disney+ is the best service for you, and in case it is unavailable in your region, get a VPN that works with Disney+ to sort that issue out for you.

Screens and TV

Figure out where your setup will be, indoors or outdoors. If you plan on having a socially-distanced movie night outdoors, then get all the things sorted beforehand. You may need a screen and a projector for that. If you plan on watching it indoors, then make sure all the items are functional and test them out beforehand to avoid any inconvenience at the time.

For outdoors, buy a projector weeks before the actual event, test the screen out and get to know the product so that in case you run into an issue on the eve, you will learn how to fix it, and things won’t turn sour or ruin your night.

Speakers

TV volume is never satisfactory. If you are recreating a movie theater at home, then do it properly with an additional set of speakers attached to amplify the whole experience. You will be able to hear, experience, and enjoy every bit of that movie, especially if it is “The Quiet Place” then you will thank us for suggestions on a speaker.

Snacks

Movies and snacks are a match made in heaven. Actually, snacks and humans are a match made in heaven. We can’t survive any movie without having our favorite munchies by our side. So that trip to the grocery store is a must—stock up on all the drinks, popcorns, and all the other favorite edible items.

Before gobbling down all the junk-food, make sure you find healthy alternatives to some of the sugar-loaded items. If you have kids, then fruit snacks and low-sugar items are preferred. Check the ingredients for any food allergies before feeding it to any of your family members.

Decoration and Set-up

Aesthetics! Get on Pinterest and create a mood board for all the gorgeous movie night trivia setups you can create using your household items. Get those fairy lights out and light a couple of candles. Create the perfect calm ambiance to relax and just relieve yourself.

The set up does not only include decoration but the seating arrangement too. If you have a large crowd coming up, push all the furniture to the wall and spread cushions all over the floor with bean bags. Or if you are a small family, then gather mattresses and couches with blankets and create a cozy warm arrangement where you can easily fall asleep too, if you feel lazy to go back to bed. That would turn your movie night into a camping/sleepover.

Theme

If you are having fun reading and listing down all the essentials for your movie night up until now, then this may make it even more exciting. Theater themed movie night! Or literally any themed night, the idea is to make everything way more exciting and engaging. Craft the proper props and get those Pjs that match the selected theme.

Final Note

The pandemic can be depressing, and even if you can’t go out to your regular movie theater, you sure can bring the experience to your home and family. Making the most out of what you have instead of contemplating over something is just not what your priority should be.

So what are you waiting for, lift up your mood, and start preparing for the ultimate night. Since Halloween is around the corner, bring out those decorations and decorate the inside of the house, and get a spooky movie list ready for a fun-filled trick or treat!
