CBD flower is a product that you can smoke or vape. You can also use buds to create your own edibles and oils. Hemp flower provides a great alternative if you want to smoke cannabis but prefer low levels of THC. For a product that contains 0.3% of THC or less and high amounts of CBD, you can use CBD bud

What is a hemp flower?

Hemp flower comes from the hemp plant and is commonly confused with marijuana because it’s a variety of the Cannabis Sativa family. Both cannabis and hemp plants contain more than a hundred different cannabinoids. The highest quantity of these complex chemicals comes from the flower or ‘bud’ of the female plants. Hemp flower buds are different from cannabis flower buds as they contain a high quantity of CBD and less than 0.3% of THC. Smokable hemp buds have a similar smell and appearance to THC products, but they are not psychoactive.

Are hemp buds legal?

The signing of the 2018 Farm Bill into law in the U.S. finally distinguished hemp from marijuana. Cultivation and distribution of hemp containing 0.3% or less of THC by dry weight became legal.

The Farm Bill essentially lets states in the U.S. decide for themselves what is legal within their borders. The patchwork legality creates some confusion for farmers and consumers alike. You need to be aware of the laws in your state, and there are still those that restrict smokable hemp.

What do you need to consider when buying CBD buds?

Hemp buds are widely sold, but it is important for consumers to know what they’re buying because there is no government regulation on this section of the market yet.

Find out where and how the product is grown

Not all hemp is of the same quality because this depends on where and how farmers grow it. See if you can find hemp that is grown locally and that farmers use responsible farming methods when growing it.

Check for third-party lab tests

It is important to find out whether the product you buy has a Certificate of Analysis (COA). This is a third-party lab test report. You can see if buds were tested for heavy metals, pesticides, residual solvents and microbial content. You will also see the cannabinoid and terpene content of the product. If there are no third-party lab tests, products could contain contaminants, and you will be unsure if products contain the ingredients they say they do.

Read the hemp strain description

There are many different strains with unique smells, flavors and effects. The hemp strain description will tell you more about the product and gives the CBD and terpene percentages. Reading the description will help you to find a strain that’s best suited for your purpose. One strain may have a painkilling and uplifting effect, while another may make you feel calm at night so you can sleep well. One strain may have an earthy smell and taste like fruit and cereal, while another may

How does CBD work?

Scientists are just starting to discover how the cannabinoids in hemp plants interact with the endocannabinoid system (ECS) in the human body. The ECS helps to regulate mood, memory, appetite and sleep.

CBD is believed to interact with receptors in the central nervous system, and studies to date suggest that it could help to reduce pain. Some research shows that it inhibits inflammatory pain, which can be hard to treat. It is believed to help with various conditions such as anxiety, depression, poor appetite, insomnia and pain. More research is still needed to establish how effective it is in treating a variety of conditions.

Is it safe to use?

CBD is safe to use as long as you source products from reputable suppliers. There appear to be few side effects when using top-quality products. Some users may experience symptoms like nausea, irritability and fatigue.
