How to Create a Morning Routine: A Breakdown

0

A good morning routine increases productivity, reduces stress, and helps you own the day instead of the day owning you. A morning routine is something most successful leaders have in common.

Ancient philosophers such as Aristotle and modern-day gurus all extol the virtues of good habits and daily routines. The morning routine is one of the most important because it sets you up for a successful day.

Do you struggle in the morning? Are you looking to level up your habits and your life? Read this article for a breakdown on creating a morning routine.

Stop Hitting the Snooze Button

The best sleep is restorative sleep. This is the sleep you get when you’re experiencing rapid eye movement (REM). You don’t get that kind of sleep during the five or ten minutes you’re getting after you hit the snooze button.

If you feel like you can’t get up without hitting the snooze button a couple of times, it’s possible you have an undiagnosed sleep disorder. Even if it’s hard the first few times you try, avoid hitting the snooze button.

As soon as your alarm goes off, get out of bed.

Have a Cup of Coffee in the Morning

Avoid social media first thing in the morning. It’s not healthy for your brain or emotions.

Instead, make yourself a delicious cup of coffee like the kind you find at Cubbyhousecoffee. Sit with your coffee and savor the moment.

The caffeine in coffee helps your body and mind wake up. Coffee also has beneficial antioxidants and coffee drinkers seem to have a decreased risk for type-2 diabetes.

Meditation, Prayer, and Gratitude

While you’re enjoying your morning cup of coffee, take a few minutes to write down a few things for which you’re grateful. Also, take about 5-10 minutes for meditation or prayer to help center yourself for the day.

Focusing on gratitude is especially important because it helps you feel the abundance in your life and drives out feelings of lack.

Exercise Daily and Drink Plenty of Water

Exercise is an important part of a healthy routine and a healthy way to start the day. Aim to exercise at least 30 minutes a day five days per week. Exercising in the morning means you won’t have to worry about fitting it into the end of your day when you’re tired.

Make sure you get plenty of water after exercising and throughout the rest of your day.

Make a Daily List the Night Before

Make a quick list each night of the next day’s tasks and highlight the tasks that move you closer to your long-term goals. After your coffee, journaling, meditation, and exercise, review your list before you jump in the shower.

The Perfect Morning Routine

The perfect morning routine is ultimately the one that works best for you. If you struggle with disorganization and have trouble reaching your goals, consider establishing a morning routine like the one described here. Starting with a good routine helps you thrive the rest of the day and in your day-to-day life.
