5 Essentials for First-Time Moms

3

As an expectant mother, your first visit to a baby store can feel more than a little bit overwhelming. You will quickly realize just how many different products there are available, as well as just how expensive they can be!

The great news is that, contrary to what you might think, you definitely don’t need to purchase everything inside the store to be adequately prepared for your little one’s arrival. Here is a breakdown of the most important items to add to your wish list ahead of your baby shower.

1) A baby swing

Countless moms swear by baby swings. These nifty little gadgets are designed to rock the baby back and forth, similarly to the swaying motion that he or she became used to in the womb.

Because of this, most babies take plenty of comfort in a baby swing. That means that you could place your little one in it for a few minutes at a time, allowing you to get something else done with your hands-free. Just make sure that your baby is always within your sights for maximum safety.

No idea which baby swing to buy? KidslyMom listed down some of the best baby swings so that you can feel 100% confident in your decision.

2) A spacious diaper bag

You might start to feel as if you are packing for a weekend away anytime you and your new baby leave the house. From diapers and wipes to bottles and toys, babies sure do need a lot stuff!

Make certain that you are prepared for any emergency that may crop up while you’re out and about by investing in a spacious diaper bag. Opt for one that has several compartments so that it’s faster and easier to find what you’re looking for at any given time.

3) A nursing pillow

If you’re planning on breastfeeding, you simply cannot go wrong with a nursing pillow. This sturdy cushion will make it simpler to get a good latch and to endure those seemingly endless growth spurt nursing sessions.

These pillows support the baby so that you can sit back and relax. They are guaranteed to make breastfeeding endlessly more comfortable, especially during the early stages when you and your newborn are still getting the hang of things.

4) Diapers

You literally cannot have enough diapers, unless you are opting to go the cloth diaper route, of course. While the latter is certainly the eco-friendliest option, it might not be a workable solution for every family.

In the event that you decide to use disposable diapers instead, be sure to stock up as much as you can. However, steer clear of buying too many boxes of newborn diapers. You might find that your little one will grow out of these within the space of a week or two.

You will be much better off investing your money in diapers from size two and up.

5) An approved infant safety seat

Optimizing your child’s safety inside the car is imperative throughout their lifetime. You can do this by purchasing an approved infant safety seat.

It is best to spend a little more on a seat that is designed to rear-face for an extended period of time. The American Academy of Pediatrics insists that children sit rear-facing in the car until at least the age of two. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration suggests that kids remain rear-facing until they reach the upper level limit in terms of height or weight as indicated by the manufacturer of the car seat.

Bottom Line

Now that you know which items are most essential, you can start shopping and anticipating the birth of your beautiful bundle. Enjoy this special time with your newborn before they grow up too fast!
