Being a Mommy While Working Long Hours

3

Working long hours is draining, but being a Mom while working long hours is even more draining. We all need to put food on our table, and although we would love to work a couple of hours and be home with the kids the rest of the day, it’s not always all that practical. And there are some women who need the mental stimulation a job offers, as they would not feel satisfied being at home taking care of their children all day.

Whether you are a nurse spending your day (or night) in Grey’s Anatomy scrubs, or sitting at an office desk in a business suit, we all strive to be the best moms we can be.

How do we give our children’s our all after coming home from an exhausting day at work? Here are some tips to juggling our work-family life and coming out successful in both.

Make sure to do a job you love-

It’s very important to choose a career that you really enjoy. Since you spend a good portion of your day at your job it is imperative that you feel good about what you’re doing, and do it well. Although you may consider being a mom your primary job, being happy at work is so important, as it directly affects your ability to the best mom you can be. If you feel productive and fulfilled after a long day at work you will come home in a good mood, ready to greet your children happily and it will set a calm relaxed tone in your home.

Take care of yourself so you can take care of others-

This one is often ignored, and you aren’t doing anyone a favor by ignoring it. Sometimes are so busy taking care of everyone else that we forget to take care of ourselves. Sound altruistic? Maybe, but you won’t able to keep it up for too long. Eventually you will begin to feel burnout and then you won’t be able to take care of anybody. So, you deserve to take care of yourself, and have some time to relax and rejuvenate. You work hard and you earned it!   And know that while you are relaxing you are doing it for a higher purpose, since it will enable you to be a more relaxed and present mother to your children.

Know Your Limits-

Many times we feel like we need to be there to give to everyone, and do everything, and things can get a bit overwhelming. We need to know that it sometimes it is ok to cut corners, and know when to say no. This all takes personal judgement, as what would be difficult for one person may not be a big deal for someone else. You have to take an honest look at your situation and see what you can do, without overdoing it.

So to all the working moms out there, you guys are doing an amazing job. Just keep these tips in mind and keep up the great work!
