A luxury car is an important investment, and while it will offer many comforts that other car models cannot, you still need to protect your vehicle like any other car. Car maintenance is easy to do, as most of the ways to care for a car can be done easily and cheaply, with some car owners even preferring to take care of some routine maintenance themselves. Here are six essential maintenance steps for keeping a luxury car in top shape:
Frequent Oil Changes
The key to a long-lasting, smooth running engine is frequent oil changes. The less debris passing through your engine, the better off it will be. Most cars require oil changes around every 3,000 to 3,500 miles. Most oil change shops will place a sticker on the top of your windshield so that you can remember when to return for your next service.
Interior Care
Keeping your car in excellent condition no matter what the weather may bring begins with preventative measures. For example, purchasing a heavy duty floor mat like these BMW X3 floor mats will keep your car’s interior clean and minimize wear to your car over time. They are easily removed and cleaned and will be far more durable over time.
The same goes for your cargo area or trunk, which you can protect with a no skid liner that will make it possible to safely haul anything from groceries to potting soil in your trunk. A liner is easily cleaned if you have a spill or need to remove the liner for tough clean ups.
Car Cover
If you don’t have a garage for storing your luxury car, your next best bet will be a car cover. While you won’t need this is the warm summer months, it will come in quite handy during the winter and during Spring storms when hail or falling branches could dent and scratch your car while it sits.
Coolant Levels
An overheating car could lead to costly long term damage to the engine. If you’ve ever experienced an overheating car, you’ll know that a smoking engine is always a sign of trouble. Thankfully checking your coolant level is just as easy as checking your windshield washer fluid. Just make sure the car has cooled down since you drove it last and fill up the coolant level to the line if it goes down. If you continue to lose coolant, have a mechanic check for leaks or other radiator and engine problems.
Check Your Tires
Tires grip the road best when they have enough tread, and if you have a high performance luxury car, sufficient tread will be extremely important. Most tires need to be changed every one to two years depending on your mileage and driving style. When you get your car checked out by a mechanic, ask for an estimate on how much tread is left in your tires. In addition, give your tires a kick to make sure they have enough pressure or stick a gauge on the air nozzle every now and then to make sure you have the correct PSI.
Washing and Waxing
Salt from the roads will eat away at your muffler, exhaust lines, and other parts of your car. The best way to take care of your luxury car is to wash it in a regular basis, taking care to even spray underneath the car to wash off anything that could cause rust in the long term. In addition, sealing the paint with a coat of wax will protect the finish over time.
