9 Fall Events in New York City You Don’t Want To Miss

2

Fall is the perfect time to schedule a quick weekend away in the most exciting city in the world, New York City. The hot summer season prices are a little lower and the winter’s chill isn’t quite ready to cover the city. New York City’s fall season has plenty to offer for weekend fun, such as romance, adventure, sophistication, shopping, and food. Here are nine events you should add to your itinerary if you’re planning a trip to the Big Apple in the fall.

1. Fall Foliage

While New York City is most known for its sprawling metropolitan feel, there are still some quiet, green spaces for residents and visitors to go and get an outdoor experience. In the fall months, you can also check out the region’s beautiful kaleidoscope of colors in the form of fall foliage. The colors will be at their most beautiful towards the middle and end of October. Central Park, Prospect Park, the New York Botanical Gardens, and Wave Hill are great spots to see the rainbow of fall tones.

2. New York City Marathon

If you want to really challenge yourself and see the city in a new way, consider entering the world-famous New York City Marathon. This classic race is happening in the city on November 3, 2019. Runners will make their way through the different neighborhoods in the city and cover a total of 26.2 miles.

3. Village Halloween Parade

Make an extended weekend late in October so you can experience the mind-blowing New York City Village Halloween Parade. This annual event is held in Lower Manhattan’s Greenwich Village neighborhood. Dress up in your most creative costume and witness the famous parade as it travels to Washington Square.

4. New York City Wine and Food Festival

For something a little more relaxed, consider marking your calendar for the weekend of October 10 through the 13th. The entire city is part of the New York City Wine and Food Festival, giving your weekend plenty of things to add to your itinerary, such as celebrity chef demonstrations, pier parties, family events, special dinners, and more. Use this map from the Westgate NYC Hotel to plan your weekend events.

5. Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

When the air starts to get a little chillier, the holiday season is near. See the iconic Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade to mark the beginning of the holiday shopping season. This year, the parade falls on Thanksgiving Day, November 28th. Spend the rest of the holiday weekend doing your Christmas shopping.

6. Football Games

Fall is also the perfect time to be a football fan. New York City has two NFL teams, the New York Giants and the Jets. For a game, you’ll need to travel eight miles outside of the city to New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium. Both teams share the stadium and alternate times spent in their home city. Staying in Manhattan, where: Westgate New York City, makes the most sense so you can enjoy your weekend seeing the city’s top sights.

7. New York City Film Festival

For film lovers, make some time in your schedule to visit New York’s Film Festival. It happens from September 27th to October 13th. Film enthusiasts can rub elbows with celebrities and see a variety of student and independent films at some of the best theaters in the metro area.

8. Hockey Games

Hockey season is also underway during the fall months. New York City’s Rangers play at the legendary Madison Square Garden. You can also watch New York’s other NHL team, the Islanders, play at Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn or the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale. There are preseason games in September, and the official start of the season is on October 3rd

9. New York Comic-Con

The last event you want to experience this fall in New York City is Comic-Con. This event goes from October 3rd through October 6th. There, you can see some celebrity appearances, question and answer sessions, and plenty of comic book vendors. Make sure you also check out the wild cosplay characters roaming the convention from franchises such as Marvel, the Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Star Wars, and many more.

A fall trip to New York City is bound to be exciting with so many fun events planned in the city this season. Make your weekend memorable by visiting the city during a special fall event this year.
