8 Tips for New Mom’s to Stay Sane and Get Some Sleep

4

Most parents are so excited about their baby to come into the world, they completely forget about the reality that not every day would be blissful taking care of your baby as it is a lot of work and the most affected thing in this combat is your sleep hence we have listed below a few tricks that will help you to stay away from sleep deprivation;

  1. Seek Help for Night-time Feedings:

Getting up every time to feed your baby may just make you tired as you will not be able to sleep without taking breaks, hence pump breastmilk and store it in feeding bottles for someone else to do this once in a while for you so that you can get your rest.

  1. Sleep Closer to Baby:

A great idea is to shift the bassinet next to your bed so that you don’t have to rush to the nursery to calm the baby but you can just do it from your bed without moving much which will also help in not breaking your sleep.

  1. Lie Down Whenever You Can:

You may not always be sleepy when the baby sleeps but that does not mean you engage in doing chores and tire yourself, instead just lie down and close your eyes. You may not sleep but you will definitely get some rest to energize you for taking care of the baby when he or she is up.

  1. Sleep When the Baby Sleeps:

The best time to get some rest is when your baby is asleep, even if it is in the daytime. Sleep every time the baby falls asleep so that you will get the needed rest to stay sane.

  1. Stay Away from Guests that Won’t Help:

This phase of taking care of a new born is already challenging enough, hence be choosy about whom you allow staying at your place. If it is someone who can help you take care of your infant, good enough or else uninvite the guests who will increase your workload.

  1. Do Not Involve in Arguments with Your Partner:

All the exhaustion and craziness going around may make you snappy and irritable, make sure not to take it out on your partner as that will drain you further. Both of you make a pact to help each other out in this situation so that both of you can enjoy parenthood.

  1. Identify if You are Facing Sleep Disorder:

Many new moms get so used to sleep deprivation that they develop conditions such as sleep disorders. If you are unable to sleep even after being tirelessly working the entire day then seeking help from Primary Care Physicians would be the ideal way to deal with this situation as sleep disorder can cause stress and instability affecting your mental health.

  1. Realize that It is Just a Temporary Phase:

Just to think of the fact that this is just a temporary phase for a few months till the baby settles and is more comfortable, is a great way to make yourself feel relieved as the thought that this is going to end soon will help you stay sane.

Taking care of an infant is a complete madness going around the house but at the end of the day, you get to spend time with the most blessed gift you have ever received which will negate all the bad experiences you had the entire day.

I can’t reiterate number 8 enough…it is definitely just a temporary phase. It will not last forever although it feels like it. I would also add, don’t be afraid to say no – no to people who wants to stop by during your rest time, no to favors, no to cooking dinner. This is the time you have an excuse to order out. Heck, hire a cleaner if you wish
