How to Feel Great in 4 Easy Steps

3

When did life get so hectic? The simple answer is as soon as you became a mom!Whether you are a stay at home mom or a working woman, when you have children they become your priority, and your needs slip down the list. However, it is important that you look after yourself, not just for your own sense of well being and happiness, but so that your family benefits from your good health too. Here are ways that you can feel great about yourself and give yourself a much-needed boost.

Your clothes

After you’ve had children your body rarely returns to exactly the dimensions of how it was pre-pregnancy, and while you may struggle to accept the new you, it is important that you learn to love your body again. Go through your closet and try your clothes on, and if they don’t make you feel great, get rid of them! Don’t keep trying to fit in clothes that are too small for you now; instead, accept that your size has changed and buy some clothes that fit you correctly and suit your body shape. Wearing clothes that fit you will make you feel fabulous!

Your hair

You may have had the same hairstyle for years, but that does not mean that it is the best one for you. As your lifestyle has changed so much, what was once a manageable hair regimen may not be achievable with the limited time for grooming that you now have. Visit a trusted salon and ask the stylist for advice on styles that require less maintenance, and even that can shave a few years off your age. A new hairstyle is a great way to inject some sassiness to your everyday.

Your friends

You may find that the only regular interactions you have are either at work, with your partner and children, or other parents at the school gate. However, you also need to reconnect with your friends and schedule time with them. We need our friends to support us through the good times and the bad, and regularly spending time with friends is an essential way to uphold your sense of identity. Try new experiences together; whether you go to the beach and use a jet surf board or go to the mountains for a hike, you will benefit from sharing time together and ultimately just having fun away from home. Laughter is, after all, the best medicine there is.

Your body

Many women have issues about their bodies after they have given birth and couple that with busy schedules, it can be easy to neglect your body. Aim to fuel your body with healthy foods and cut back on processed and sugar-laden options. A healthy diet will enhance your mood naturally, and by getting more active, your body will release the feel-good hormones endorphins. You don’t have to sign up for a marathon; you just need to be more physical. A brisk twenty minute walk each day is a great way to be more active without having to spend a dollar.

You are not the same woman as you were before you had children. Not only has your body changed over the years, but mentally you have very different priorities. Spend time to identify what makes you feel good and take steps to do more of it – a happy woman makes for a better mother.
