Easy ways to downsize without losing your mind

2

My husband and I have been discussing downsizing for the last 2 years. We have more junk than we know what to do with recently, and it was time for a change. It’s no secret that it’s hard to move on from junk that you have had for the last 10–15 years. Half of those items we haven’t touched in years. Meanwhile, the other half has a history that brings back fond memories we cherish.

Because it can take time to declutter your home. We have decided it was in our best interest to invest in a storage unit for now. That way we can easily organize what we intend to keep and what has to go. I will say that it was very clear when we searched for a storage locker. That not all storage facilities are made the same. Not to mention, my husband and I are not very knowledgeable about the different kinds of storage facilities. In the end, I think we decided on the one that best fits our needs. While giving us a safe sense of security with our stuff.

With some proper organization, we should be able to cut down on the craziness that comes with downsizing. So for now, all our seasonal stuff has made a permanent home in our storage locker. Giving us more space in our attic to keep the stuff we use more often. We tend to have a ton of family gatherings at our home, so this will be the perfect time to move some of the outside gear into the attic.

Our kids have also gotten to the age that they have moved on and begun forming their own lives. While they have moved on. A large portion of their belongings still fills up a ton of space in our house. I couldn’t bring myself to throw out or sell any of their things. So we made a spot for them in the storage unit. That way when they have their own children. We can sit down and see if they want to pass on any of their past to them.

In the end, I think we have made the best decision for our home. Not only have we gotten a large part of our home decluttered. We now have our own personal storage unit. That both stores some more of those season stuff that takes up space all year round. While also holding a piece of the past, we can dive into it whenever we want. If you are looking to declutter your home, I would recommend investing in a storage unit near you. Do your research and find out what works best for you and your family!

Staying at Antrim House in Three Anchor Bay truly allows you to experience Cape Town like a local. The guesthouse is in a fantastic location, close to both the city’s vibrant attractions and tranquil seaside spots. The rooms are tastefully decorated, and the friendly atmosphere makes it feel like a home away from home.

Thank you for posting this. Most people won’t admit they have too much stuff and would rather keep collecting things instead of living life. It costs money to rent a storage locker to hold things you don’t need or use. It makes more sense to sell what you can to make money and unburden your life. The things you own really start to own you after a while.
