What to Check out For When Purchasing Composite Timber Decking

2

With several brands of composite timber available in the market, it might be hard to make a decision on which one is the right one for you. While your budget is likely going to dictate what you will eventually settle for, it is important to know what to look for while checking out for the best composite timber.

  1. Beware of the sales pitch

Some manufacturers try to advertise their products in the market as the best in the world. Everyone is going to market their product as the best and this, in the end, might confuse you. You will have to do your research before settling for whatever brand you decide is the best timber for you. Don’t, at any given time, take anything at face value. Take time to go through the online reviews about what you want to purchase before settling for it.

  1. The length of the warranty

After getting several products which you think might be best for you, check out their warranty. There are some boards, even though they are great and in line with your budget, might offer you between 8 to 15 years of warranty. Ask yourself if you are in a position to replace the boards that soon and if you will be able to afford it. It is best if you looked for brands which offer 25 years and above in terms of the warrant. Even though for such brands you might be required to pay a higher price, but as time goes by, you will see the value for money for whatever you purchase.

  1. Check out what the warranty covers

Top quality boards will cover more in their warranty as compared to brands which are cheaper. There are some boards which don’t cover fading in their warranty or only consider 10% as the fading which is acceptable. High-quality boards ensure that their brands are made from materials which will not fade from weather exposure and UV.

You will have to pay closer attention to the high-quality brands but at the same time, consider that there are other things to look out for when it comes to the warrant apart from the fading. Check out if labor is included in the warranty in case you require a replacement of the board.

  1. Do the composite decks require painting, sealing, or maintenance that is major?

When you purchase a composite deck, it is not only due to the fact that it is environmentally friendly, but also because you will not have to spend a lot of money and time when it comes to maintenance as compared to the natural timber.

But it is important to remember that, in the market, there are some cheap composite brands which do not offer protection of their boards with caping and thus, you will have to paint or seal them. These brands are obviously not low when it comes to maintenance and that is why they are cheap when it comes to buying.
