I love the old-aged saying, “waste not want not”. And Maggie Bags offers a prime example of this fabulous saying with their Messenger Bag. Made entirely of rejected seat belt webbing and finished off with adorable seat belt buckles for closures.
Don’t let the term, “rejected” scare you. In fact, Maggie Bags should be proud of their environmental dedication. And as consumers, we should applaud Maggie Bags for their creative efforts in doing such an amazing job with what would otherwise be considered “waste”
The Maggie Bags legacy began with our parent company, Tennessee Webbing Products. Tennessee Webbing has kept millions of yards of narrow fabrics out of landfills since they began operation in 1991. Our desire to do our part for the environment by finding creative new uses for materials originally made for other purposes has been the Maggie Bags mission since the beginning.
Maggie Bags launched in the spring of 2009 with a handful of retailers and a little online store. Today our products can be found in hundreds of retail locations across the Unites States, many online retail stores and in our own online store.
About Our Products
Maggie Bags are made using genuine automotive seat belt webbing built to meet government safety standards to protect you for the life of your car. Due to these high standards, millions of yards of seat belt webbing are rejected by automakers each year. Maggie Bags uses as much of this rejected seat belt material as possible in our products. Availability of rejected seat belt webbing can vary greatly therefore some webbing must be purchased new to meet the growing demand for our unique and stylish bags. However, our commitment to use repurposed seatbelt webbing whenever possible remains steadfast.
The Maggie Bags team is continually looking for creative ways to do our part for the environment. We are proud that the construction of our handbags is a simple cut-and-sew operation. This helps to minimize the environmental impact of manufacturing new materials and eliminates the need for typical recycling processes that consume large amounts of energy and other resources.
What Do I Think?
For me the LeConte Messenger bag is more than just an environmental saver, it’s a travel organizing saver as well. I travel A LOT, and when I do, I need everything organized and easily accessible. Moreover, it’s prefect for my flight carry-on.
With functional fashion this seat-belt bag is perfect for office commute, college or high-school students, travel, overnight stays and more. You’ll find pockets and zipper compartments inside for just about any need you can think of.
LeConte Messenger by Maggie Bags comes in Chocolate, Black and my personal favorite Dark Red. With Valentines Day just around the corner, I think the Dark Red Messenger Bag would make a lovely gift!
