Exterior Makeover: Ideas to Give Your Home More Curb-Side Appeal

4

For a woman of style, your home is your sanctuary. It’s where you feel safe and comfortable, but the exterior of your home doesn’t always give that impression. In this article we will explore ways to spruce up the outside of your home to make it more appealing to passersby. This can be important if you plan to keep your home or even more important if you plan to sell.

It’s well known that home buyers are more likely to buy a home with curb-side appeal. There have been many studies done on the subject, and they all come to the same conclusion: home buyers like homes that look good from outside.

This post is going to show you some design ideas for your home exterior. Some of the tips you can do yourself, but others may require professionals who can work with you to see your vision become a reality.

Exterior Paint

If your home is currently painted, then repainting the exterior can give it a whole new look. While painting might be something you could do yourself, it may be wise to hire a professional to paint your house if you can afford it.

There are many different paint colors to choose from, and you can even find schemes that will match your home’s interior style. If you’re not sure what color to choose, then take a look at the homes in your neighborhood for ideas.

Be sure to pick a color that will complement the other houses in your area but also have a touch of your own personality. For those that like to get a little creative, painting the front door a bold color like red or blue can make your home stand out.

Exterior Cladding

Applying cladding to the exterior of your home is a great way to take an old, dated home and make it look modern and sophisticated. There are a variety of materials to choose from with metals growing in popularity. With a great range now available, you can find panels that will match the style of your home.

Not only does metal cladding look great, but it’s also a way to add insulation and protect your home from the weather. For an unforgettable look, consider a Standing Seam Metal Cladding panel system. This trend has been made popular in Melbourne, Australia and is starting to become influential in global design trends.

House Rendering

If your home is currently built with old, ugly bricks then rendering can be a great option to modernize the home. It can also be an excellent way to cover up any old cracks or damaged walls. Rendering is the process of applying a coat of cement, lime, acrylic or some other material to finish a building’s exterior.

Rendering can be done in many different ways, so you can choose a style that will fit your home perfectly. There are many companies that offer rendering services, so be sure to do your research before choosing one.

Fencing

As homeowners, we often neglect and ignore our fencing. Your front fence is one of the first things that people see when they look at your home, so it’s important to make sure it looks good. If your fencing is old and damaged, consider replacing it with a new, more stylish option.

There are many different types of fencing styles available on the market, so you’re sure to find one that suits your needs. Even if you don’t have front fencing, you should still consider the side fencing particularly if it can be seen from the curb-side. If you’ve used metal cladding or rending on your home consider using materials that either match or compliment your homes exterior.

Gardening

It’s very important that your garden look neat and tidy if you are trying to sell your home for the maximum price.  Consider recreating your favorite holiday resort style in your garden. Trim all the bushes, weed the flower beds and make sure your lawn is mowed. If you don’t have time to do it yourself, consider hiring a gardener to take care of it for you.

If it’s time for a more complete garden makeover, consider a low-maintenance option.  Xeriscaping is a great way to have a beautiful garden without all the hassle. You can use plants that don’t need a lot of water or maintenance, and you won’t have to worry about weeding or mowing.

Paths and Decking

Don’t ignore the ground when you are working on the exterior of your home.  A well-designed path can lead the eye to your front door, and decking can add extra curb appeal. Decking at the front of your home can also be a great option for adding some extra space and making your home feel more inviting however it does require deck care to keep it in great condition.

A concrete path is a great way to add some interest, or you could choose a different type of material like brick or stone. If you’ve got an old, cracked concrete path you could refinish it or potentially put pavers over it to complete transform the path.

Roofing

If you’re doing an exterior makeover, it’s a good time to check your roof and see if any repairs are needed. If you have missing or damaged tiles, now is the time to fix them. It’s also a good idea to clean your roof or refinish it, depending on the style of roofing your home uses.

Conclusion

These are just a few ideas to get you started on refreshing your home’s exterior. There are many other things you can do, so be sure to consult with a professional before starting any projects.

If you’re not sure where to start, consider driving around your neighborhood to see how other homes in your area attract some much-needed curb appeal. With the right planning and execution, you can give your home a fresh new look that will transform your home.

I think another important factor in how you can transform the exterior of your home is beautiful windows. They give your home a special, exterior, beautiful look that immediately catches the eye of those who see your home. The bigger the windows, the more daylight will enter your home. Of course, if you have large windows, you may feel like you’re in an aquarium. But even that issue can be solved with Sonata Design – blinds in Calgary that can beautifully cover your windows and add a special touch to your interior and exterior.

If you have old windows, you can replace them. Windows play an important role in this process. If you have small windows, it is better to make them bigger, you can even make panoramic windows. It will be cool looking. And inside the house, you can cover the windows with designer curtains and blinds. I, for example, used Sonata Design – blinds in Calgary when I did that. It was the best thing I ever did.
