Data Recovery Tips for Home Business Owners

1

Online security and the security of any file that you ever saved to a computer have been put into question over the last five to ten years.  Hackers have mainly targeted companies with millions of users, but that is because they just want the login information of those users and what they can do with that information is what should bother you.  Many Americans work from home or have started a home based business on their own, and making sure that financial information is safe from hackers should be the top priority.  Here are a few tips to keep everything you work for safe and sound.

Back Up Data to Avoid Possible Data Recovery

Even though we all think that our computers are safe from hackers, there are a few other things that can cause a problem where your data might need to be recovered.  Every single week, more than 140,000 hard drives crash and that can happen at any time.  One way to avoid having to worry about data recovery is making sure that you backup all of the important data that you deal with on a regular basis.  Additionally, you can do a full backup of your computer at least once each year to overlap your backup.

Test Your Backup to Be Sure

Most computer users that are aware of how a backup of data works might not realize that those backups must be tested.  Nothing is fool proof and when you are dealing with a computer backup, it could fail you when you need it most.  To avoid any further issues, go ahead and test that backup to be sure all of the files on the backup are placed back where they belong.  This will ensure your backup is good and that the data you need will be there for future use if something bad should happen to your data storage.

If You Need Recovery, Be Prepared

In the event that you will need to have a data recovery of your data that is stored on a bad hard drive, you will need to be prepared for that situation.  Secure data recovery services by Secure Data Recovery can help you with recovering your data, but it must be prepared properly before they see it.  Wrap your hard drive in a freezer bag or one that is made from an anti-static material.  Follow up with a layer of bubble wrap to help avoid vibration and if you can, make that layer at least 2 inches thick.  Avoid packing “peanuts” as they can cause static to form during the shipping process.  Package and send the hard drive in a new, strong cardboard box that is at least two times the size of the drive.

In summary, make sure that you complete your backups, double check your backup is good, and if you feel that your data needs recovering follow these tips before shipping.  This process might seem like a lot of work, but if the data is worth backing up, then it is also worth the recovery process.
