I will admit, I’ve made numerous New Year’s resolution to lose weight but let me say this out loud……it never worked! I would start off doing great then soon my weight journey would get worse, meaning I would lose the willpower to move forward. It was more of a roller-coaster and a headache for me!
I would feel deprived and always thinking what could I eat next. It was a struggle trying to cut those calories daily. I joined many programs and read many diet books but today I believe I have really found a book that will help me to try dieting again, a book that I feel will help me way beyond just dieting!
It’s called: Always Hungry? Conquer Cravings, Retrain Your Fat Cells & Lose Weight Permanently by Harvard Professor Dr. David Ludwig.
The main focus of the book is related to nutrition, weight and health for ourselves and our kids. Dr. Ludwig has been known to be one of the most influential low-carb researchers for many year. He’s shown that people on low-carb diets may burn on average 325 more calories per day.
The book is a great read for it really go into depth about dieting. You see Dr. Ludwigs approach is said to be that a very low-carb diet may be even more effective for weight loss, he thinks a more moderate version is easier to do, and effective enough. It’s the “tortoise” to the strict low-carb “hare” (Dr. Ludwig actually uses those words).
His diet recommendation is to start out with 25% carbs, increasing it to 40% after two weeks. He also recommends 3 meals a day + 2 snacks. Obviously the carbs are mostly low-GI, unrefined carbs. I’m not sure how this would work for me for carbs are so hard for me to reduce or let go.
Dr. Ludwig other main points in the book is to help you lose weight long-term, making it a point that we should not restrict calories and suffer. We should eat food that makes us want to eat less. We should eat foods that reduce the “fat cell fertilizer”, the hormone insulin. This means eating way less carbs and reducing bad carbs like sugar and flour that hurts us the most.

Overall I think Dr. Ludwig book will help me and others learn to think different when it comes to eating. The bad food choices we used to make will no longer be our first choice. Many times it’s a mind game when it comes to dieting but it really helps to have the right resources like Dr. Ludwig Always Hungry book to help you fulfill your dieting journey without relapsing.
