Use Vouchers

Since becoming a mother, I have learnt to become much more thrifty. Making use of special offers is a great way to save money. But my absolute favourite has got to be the use of vouchers and coupons.  There are plenty of sites online that will allow you to find and use vouchers. It’s just a case of looking for them and putting in a bit of effort.

Cut Expenses

Use Vouchers

Since becoming a mother, I have learnt to become much more thrifty. Making use of special offers is a great way to save money. But my absolute favourite has got to be the use of vouchers and coupons.  There are plenty of sites online that will allow you to find and use vouchers. It’s just a case of looking for them and putting in a bit of effort.

Cut Expenses

One of the major things you need to do is figure out where in your life you can cut expenses. There are always going to be some areas where you overspend. The main offenders will most likely be food shopping and energy bills. The good news is there are plenty of ways you can cut down on this expenditure. For one thing, you need to stop buying luxuries when you good food shopping. I now only buy the essential that the family needs for the week. You also need to try to cut the costs of energy bills. I save money on home heating by layering up and making sure all the windows and doors in the home are shut.

Make Things Yourself.

If you’re serious about wanting to save money in your life, you need to get practical. I spoke to a friend of mine a while back about trying to make savings. I was struggling a little at the time. And she’s said to me, ‘why don’t you make things yourself?’ I’d never even considered that until she said it. So I made a list of some of the things I could make or modify myself. Stuff like clothes and quilts topped the list. Then I had a look at the best sewing machine for quilting, and I invested. Now I probably use my sewing machine a couple times a week. I can patch up the kids clothes and make new quilts. It’s saved me heaps of cash, and I enjoy how therapeutic it is.

Save Leftovers

One of the areas families are most wasteful these days is when it comes to food. You need to understand that buying food is expensive. You’ve heard the saying ‘waste not want not’, well, that applies here. What I’ve started to do is to save up leftovers and freeze them. Eventually, I can amass enough frozen leftovers to put together and make another meal. I can’t tell you how thankful I am that I started doing this. I am now averaging one free meal per week for the family. And this is saving me on having to buy more food. It’s a great way of saving money, and also of not being wasteful.

Hand-Me-Downs

As a mom of two I have found another great way to save on clothes. What I do is when my eldest outgrows his outfits and clothes I give them to the younger one. This is a great way of being efficient and saving on having to buy new clothes. It might not always be greeted with enthusiasm, but it’s important. If you have two boys (or two girls), you should think about doing this. You’ll be amazed by how much you save now you only have to buy new clothes for one.

We all have to realise that the cost of living these days is higher than it’s ever been. As a mom, I can no longer afford to spend money frivolously. I’ve had to reign in my spending, and come up with ways to save money in my life. This might sound difficult to you, but it’s actually easier than you might think. So you can start making savings of your own today!
