Bintan Island, the new aviation hub of Indonesia

Blessed with palm tree-lined beaches, crystal clear waters, delicious food and rich history, it’s no wonder that Bintan Island, in Indonesia’s Riau Archipelago, is one of the most popular holiday destinations in the region.

And with a new airport planned for the island in the very near future, its popularity and development potential is only set to grow.

Though many of the island’s resorts are already pulling in a lot of local and international business, visitors to the island currently have to fly to Changi Airport in Singapore and then catch a 45-minute ferry to Bintan.

The new planned airport will dramatically reduce travel times to the island, making it easier for holidaymakers from around the world to visit this incredible region and its spectacular resorts.

As well as a runway and airport terminal, investors GARUDA Indonesia and Singaporean-based Gallant Venture also plan to build an aircraft maintenance center and a development to house employees complete with sports and wellness facilities.

With their fleet stationed in Bintan, GARUDA Indonesia will be able to run a more competitive service with an increased choice of destinations for both holidaymakers and business travelers.

Once completed, this new project will transform Bintan Island into an aviation hub, opening the region up to development, investment and tourism.

With Indonesia’s economy currently going from strength to strength, the development on Bintan Island couldn’t come at a better time. In fact, in 2011 the country’s economy became the 16th largest in the world and if the current rate of growth is maintained, will move ahead of both the UK and Germany with 20 years.

The combination of economic growth, culture, stunning scenery and delicious cuisine is the ideal mix to transform Bintan Island into one of the region’s most famous destinations and, unsurprisingly, some big developers have already moved into to secure the most prestigious potential developments on the island.

One of the most touted resorts of recent years is The Sanchaya, set on the shores of Lagoi Bay in the Singapore Strait.

Designed to showcase the very best of what South East Asia has to offer, The Sanchaya Estate blends the region’s art, culture and cuisine together to create a luxurious resort perfect for both local and international guests to enjoy.

With its emerging economy, white sandy beaches and future airport, Bintan Island is set to be one of the biggest aviation and tourism hubs in the region within just a few years.
